When you say "pair," what kind of relationship are you intimating (as that will be a large factor). But to put this into a perspective that's easier to understand by those of us in the real world, think of the immortal person as a normal, healthy person and the mortal person as being terminally ill. That said, it is a classic tragedy in the making--because you know that it does not and cannot end well.
