For example, is there anywhere with information on Amaterasu in a game capacity?

If I understand the nautre of your question. You are looking for Shinto Kami as D&D Gods, right?
The 1st edition Deities and Demigods cyclopedia. Japanese Mythos chapter, if I remember rightly. Kind of bare bones compared to what you see for Gods these days, but it will include at least an alignment.

Okami's root run deep into Japaness myths and legends, so it would be a very good source for information and convertions. The mosters for exampale can be used in D&D with some work (ie: CR, HP, basicly stuff you find in MM. You can use some of the Gods to. Also it can give you some insperation for storys to.
:teach:

So I'm prety sure it would work, I know I'm using it for insperation.:w00t:

Just really quick, I'd like to clear up some potential confusion before it turns into something ugly as I've found elsewhere...

Amatarasu is not a wolf. As far as I am aware, none of her iconocraphy ever has her in the form of a wolf. She is the sun goddess and principal goddess of the Japanese pantheon; her symbols are the blade, jewel, and mirror, and she does not change things with a magical calligriaphy brush.

Susanoo is in fact a storm god and Amatarasu's brother; he was banished from heaven for being a right unruly git. He did indeed slay a dragon and did retrieve a magical blade from its tail, and he was an idiot, but he was a god on top of it all.

It scares me that someone I knew thought Amatarasu was a wolf-god because of that game :\ Reaserch, people, reaserch.

now, the question is: are you looking for the Amatarasu as she is portrayed in the game Okami, or as she actually is? because you could do either or.

I second Ryuu_Tenshi's point: while the game draws from Japaness myths and legends it also differs from them in many points. You can use real life insperation, the game insperation, or even a mix of the two it's realy your choice.

Also your frist post was a bit vague could you please be more specific in what you mean, I may be misinterpreting it.

Oi! If you hadn't said something about a game, I would have been completely lost. I was thinking they were trying to ask either "Wolf (狼) Stuff for OA" or "Great Deity (大神) Stuff for OA". Heh!

Yeah, Okami causes a lot of confusion that way between people who just played the game and know zip about Japanese mythos, and people who are into the mythos and didn't play the game *laughs*

I actually ended up in a flamewar once because some idiot named his sword "Amatarasu the Moon Wolf" becuase of that game. I... sort of wanted to stab him.
That aside, it is in fact a great game and it's got a lot of fun references to Shinto mythology, so if you ever have the inclination to pick up a PS2 game I do recommend it.

That's odd because it actualy said in the game that she was the sun god.

Weird...

You should get some therapy, that is, of course, if you were serious about the wanting to stab him. If that was hyperbole, no worries, but check your temper over insignificant things.

In any event, I needed Amaterasu domains and portfolios for a cleric/shugenja concept I had milling in my head. Thanks!

Because she hasn't been listed in any official capacity that I know of, I can only provide you with some suggestions:

Ancestor (OA), Celestial (OA), Good (PHB), Healing (PHB), Law (PHB), Nobility (SpC), and Sun (PHB).

Both Ancestor and Nobility were chosen because the Imperial line was considered to be descended from her through Emperor Jimmu, Amaterasu's great (×4) grandson. The other domains just seemed fairly obvious.

Hope that helps.

Slightly off-topic, but I believe the wolf form was used because the japanese word for wolf is pronouned okami as is O-kami. I guess it is another of those asian languages and the love of sound based puns.

As for resent stats on japanese deities there have been a couple of third party sourcebooks, Kitsunemori comes to mind, and one dragon magazine.

This text version of the 2nd ed Legends and Lore (http://www.wizards.com/dnd/files/LegendsAndLore.rtf) book contains a whole Japanese, Chinese, and even Hindu cosmology for 2nd ed D&D, so converting it shouldn't be very tough at all.

I think it's perfectly natural to have a violent reaction to stupid :banghead: and an overwhelming feeling of embarrassment when I resemble that remark   ...

Insignificant things... I guess that depends on if you believe everything has meaning or not.

Lol! Now that is irony.
