I read in one of the threads about how the Kama is considered an exotic weapon even though the sickle is a simple weapon and kama are basically just sickles with a different name.

So there is a good argument for making the kama a simple weapon.

I wondered if any other DMs/ Players had developed house rules or new equipment for the O D & D world?

Many weapons listed as "exotic" purely because they're not European in origin I always houserule as either simple or martial.

People want new stats for every little thing a lot of the time. This bugs me, because they always end up just being exactly the same as pre-existing equipment with changes so minor they don't even merit new stats.

When statting something, I look for pre-existing analogs first. Usually, most weapons really are just aesthetically different from those in the PHB, but functionally the same. That failing, I search out the big list of weapons from http://realmshelps.dandello.net/cgi-bin/weapons.pl?all which contains every weapon WotC ever published, they have pages for other equipment, too.

Failing that, if the bit of equipment is so different it really does merit new stats, I use something similar as a basis and then build off that.

But thats essentially my houserule: Analogs first, new stats last.

Exotic doesn't have anything to do with a weapon's land of origin, but rather the degree of training needed to use it successfully as a weapon.

Any one find stats for a monk's spade?

I'm trying to make a character for Sandy from the Journey to the West.

I've been using the Lajang as a base but just wondered if there was one out there.

I too, would like to know if one already exists. But I want one for a character that is afraid of zombies. (See: Zombie Survival Guide for why)

EDIT: I have also seen them called Shaolin Spades.

BAMBOO BOMB
Just core out a bamboo segment and fill the bamboo bottle with gunpowder and slag beading that occurs as a residue of Smelting of metals and you have a nifty Hand Grenade.

BAMBOO BOMB: DAMAGE(6d6), THROW RANGE (80'), AREA OF EFFECT (50' radius), MANUFACTURE (CRAFT (ALCHEMY) DC20), WEIGHT (3 LB)
