| Thakowsaizmu08-20-07, 09:42 PM | Howdy, or should I say Ni Hao. I've been thinking on and off about creating a world based loosely on a Chinese Aesthetic. I call it “Qílù” (奇陸)*, it means “Wonderful Land” and is pronounced “chee-loo”. It will be a fantasy setting though, so it'll be about as historically accurate as Faerûn is to Europe. It is still in the plotting phase though, so I thought I’d get some opinions if anyone cares to share them. The classes I’ll be using are the following: Barbarian Bard Fighter Monk Ranger Rogue Shaman Sorcerer Wu Jen Xiwushi The classes will all be from either the PHB or the OA book, not from any of the complete series. Xiwushi (穸巫師) is going to be a new class, mostly for NPCs, that will pretty much be a cross between Arcane and Divine Necromancer. As for races, the following’ll be populating the world thus far: Human Hengeyoukai Elf Dwarf The Elves and Dwarves will be working slightly different from their PHB cousins though. I am thinking of having the Dwarves be strangers to the land and giving them a slightly Arabian culture and feel. I do, however, feel I need more races. I will be using some of the rules from the Unearthed Arcana book, such as Weapon Group Proficiencies, Spellpoints, and probably Defense Bonus and Armour as DR. I also plan on including many spells from other books I have, if the flavour needs to be changed slightly so be it, but to be honest the OA book is somewhat lacking in the realm of Spells. So, as I said, plotting phase at the moment. Any feedback will be most appreciated. *I am in no way fluent in Chinese, so if any of the terms are wrong… well this is a fantasy setting after all. |

Races of Faerun (I think) even has some additional types. If you can stomach monkey people, Vanara could be interesting. Maybe style their culture after India. And if you want a more wuxia martial arts feel, how about adding some material from Expanded Psionic Handbook and/or ToB: Book of Nine Swords? |
| Thakowsaizmu08-22-07, 01:50 AM | I've been debating whether or not to put anything Psionic in the game. I don't know why, but I've always felt that Psionics and Magic don't mix. I absolutely love Psionics, but I can just never justify having both in the same world. I may change that for this game though, because the thought of Elves using Psionics in conjunction with Internal Boxing sounds cool. As for the Book of Nine Swords, I don't have it, and am far too strapped for cash right now to wait to get it for this campaign. Spirit Folk, well I have always felt that they are just Elves, but lame. I don't know, maybe it is the nature thing coupled with the pointed ears, but I have always felt that they are just wanna be Elves. I may use them as a sub-race of Elves though. Something to think about anyway. The problemme I have with the Mongolian Hobgoblin thing is that for what ever reason people always think of Mongolians as uncultured barbarians (much as they think of Hobgoblins), and I know they were anything but. Although it may help to tackle two stereotypes in one... As for the monkey people, eh, I could take them or leave them. If I style anything on Fantasy India, it will be far more diverse than just the monkey people though. |

| Sleepwalker1366608-22-07, 08:33 PM | Well most of the time psionics seems more of a sci-fi thing, but many of the pscionic feats fit really well with a martial arts setting, at the very least you should consider those for your setting. |
| Thakowsaizmu08-24-07, 01:09 AM | To be honest, I have very little interest in the Book of Nine Swords. I've looked throught it and I just don't really care that much. So I will not be using anything from it. As for the Psionics, I think I will use those as a sort of Neijia Wushu thing. I may also use the Psion and Psychic warrior later on, have Psionics work something like Qi and magic more like folk or hedge magic. A thought. I haven't had much time to work on the setting itself, just a few mechanics, so that is all I have so far. I'll post setting info and such as I go though, and am happy to take any input anyone might have (So long as it isn't talking about how great the ToB book is and how I should love it like a child). |
