| Sleepwalker1366608-15-07, 01:12 AM | This is my first attempt at a legacy weapon, as such it will probably need lots of editing. Royal Monkey Staff The royal monkey staff was once wielded by a monk named Lu-Jin, of the Golden Sun Temple, he was the least favorite student of the master because he tried to show that a strict set of discipline was not necessary to master the ways of the fist. One day went sent on a pilgrimage test me happened upon a traveling merchant who was selling pieces of kun-lun bamboo, rare wood said to wield magical properties. He had no money so he attempted to earn it by favor (Merchants favor DC 15) After a week of assisting the merchant he was given a small but special section of the kun-lun bamboo, which the merchant said he believed to be possessed by a monkey spirit, this intrigued Lu-Jin, who happily took the piece back with him to the temple. On his way back about a day outside his temple he was witness to a fight between two of the monastery members, one was a man named Joi-Geru a boastful and unruly student who received almost as much discredit for his behavior as Lu-Jin, Lu-Jin tried to peacefully intervene, but Joi-Geru would have none of it (Defeat an Arrogant Student Dc 18), Lu-Jin was forced to defend himself, to his surprise when holding the piece of bamboo it immediately grew in size to a full staff, and he was able to defeat his foe. Upon returning to the temple he began his training and for many years learned the way of the monk despite his lack of discipline and learned to master the strange staff he had acquired. Finally one day he decided to prove his worth to the Temple of the Golden Sun, and challenged the master to an honorable duel, the battle was said to be fierce, and in the end Lu-Jin was defeated, but secretly he had allowed himself to be defeated (Lose to an Honorable Master Dc 25), he merely wished to demonstrait how far his personal training took him in hopes of being taken more seriously, and succeeded. Omen: After successfully defeating all adversaries present the wielder feels a strong urge to dance around, if he gives into the urge it typically last 1d4-1 rounds, if he wishes to ignore this urge he must succeed a will save Dc 12, failure results in dancing for 1d4-1 rounds . Legacy Rituals Merchants Favor (Least Ritual) To obtain the Royal Monkey Staff you must earn it by favor, in the past it has often been given for a weeks worth of chores, however some times it has been flat out given believing by the owner to be worthless. If the Royal Monkey Staff is not obtained in such a manner it will never display it's omen nor any magical properties. (1,000 gp. in labor) Defeat an Arrogant Student (Lesser Ritual) You must defeat one who is overconfident in their abilities in a duel, this person must be at least 8th level, and you may not kill him, so that he may have a chance to learn the error of his ways. (15,000 gp.) Lose to an Honorable Master (Greater Ritual) You must challenge a great teacher to an honorable duel, whom is of at least 15th level, you must reduce his hp to 25% or less of it's maximum, but not defeat him, you must voluntarily lose. (50,000 gp.) Wielder Requirements Most wielders are Monks or former monks, but others have found it's abilities as useful as well. Wisdom: 16 Base Attack Bonus: +3 Alignment: Good Legacy Item Abilities Another Path: You may freely multi-class in and out of your monk levels. Unexpected Reach: The Royal Monkey Staff can adjust it's size to the wielders preference, it may be changed up to one size category per attack as well as a reach increase of 5 feet (may choose both, one or none), changing size is part of an attack action, however after one round reverts back to it's old size. The player still takes the size penalties for wielding larger than normal weapons. Incredible Reach: The Royal Monkey Staff's unpredictable size becomes easier to manage, as part of an attack action it's size category may be increased two sizes instead of one (reach may still only be increased by 5 feet per strike). Also as a standard action a single attack may be made with the staff immediately changing to any size category, which reverts back to it's original size at the end of the round. The player may choose to use this ability for other actions as well, such as pole vaulting, pushing himself atop a roof etc. The Monkeys Dance: You may make a trip attempt with the royal monkey staff, if you succeed you may instead of choosing to complete the trip invoke the monkeys dance on the foe, this functions as Otto's Irresistible Dance except the duration is 1d4 rounds. This ability may be used 3 times per day. Heavenly Reach: The Royal Monkey Staff's size changing abilities are now simple to control, the staff stays at masters preferred size until changed. Loyal Students: The wielder of the Royal Monkey Staff gains the leadership feat except he only attracts Monks. |
| narukagami08-15-07, 01:18 AM | Heh, you mistyped the title, it says "Royal Money Staff". Otherwise, I like everything except the Omen, you have no choice but to dance? No save involved at all? How about changing it to a "strong urge" to dance, and make it a will save to resist? Omens aren't really meant to be something that strong, just a hint that its not your average magic item. |

No save involved at all? How about changing it to a "strong urge" to dance, and make it a will save to resist? Omens aren't really meant to be something that strong, just a hint that its not your average magic item. Good point, I'll go ahead and do that, thank you for your feedback |
| Hochiu08-15-07, 01:44 AM | That is a very small font in your code-block, my friend. |
| Sleepwalker1366608-15-07, 01:49 AM | That is a very small font in your code-block, my friend. Fixed, but other than that what do you think of the item? |
| Hochiu08-15-07, 01:53 AM | I like what I see. I just don't have enough experience with Legacy items to be able to help with a mechanic point of view. From the flavor point of view, however, it looks sound and fun for anyone who wants to recreate the item from myth and legend. I like it. |
| narukagami08-15-07, 01:53 AM | ... but other than that what do you think of the class? You mean item? You're on a typo roll tonight. :P Again, I like it. I also want to add I've made a couple Legacy items myself, about 3, for my own game. Your first attempt at making a Legacy item is much better than my three tries. |

Hehe, yeah I'm an insomniac, my job normally only works me late night but we had two days shifts quit on us, so they been working me early mornings, I basically am running on 8 hours of sleep over 3 days, thank goodness for my firefox spell checker or I'd be really screwed right now. But I'm glad you like it it was fun to write up. |
| Sleepwalker1366608-17-07, 08:36 PM | So I'm guessing fourth edition just took all the embers from this post. :weep: :allalone: :weep: |

| IRememberCecil09-16-07, 10:46 PM | Dude, I honestly don't think there's anything wrong with the weapon when all people can point out are typos. It's pretty damn cool, by the way. |
