it was a strip of cloth either worn on the head or the waist going into battle. a soldier's wife/other woman related to him would stand out on the street trying to get passersby to put a single stitch into the belt. after (about) 1000 it would be gifted to the soldier as a good-luck charm.

07-08-07, 04:17 AM Apparently, the senninbari (or thousand stitch belt) is of a fairly recent vintage (early 20th century). Essentially, they were made by women and given to sodiers as a goodluck charm/to impart invulnerability to the wearer. Yes, that's an oversimplification, but I give you links to elucidate:

07-08-07, 08:21 PM It's easy to make it a D&D object, just give a +1 luck bonus to all rolls. While that is a pretty big bonus it can be made into a very hard object to obtain since it needs to be given by a lover and one thousand people have to help in the crafting you can pretty much only get it when a DM decides you can have it. Or make it the usual 1-5 bonus on only some things like skill checks.

Sure. I'm inclined to say that it could be adapted to any setting.

Provide the wearer a +1 to Will Rolls?

I'd be inclined to make it a magic item that grants +2 luck bonus to all saving throws (and possibly to AC).
