Back in 1990 the Piao Shih (Caravan Escort) was released in Dragon.
What does it look like in 3rd edition terms?

A prestige class with requirement of having monk's unarmed strike and Track, for starter.

Its not a prestiege class though (3.5 would call it a gestalt class) I have been refering to it as a metaclass.

Hybrids are usually done with prestige classes, though. IIRC Dragon 314 had several monk/x prestiges, one - iirc Master of the South Wind - was made for monk/rogues. There ought to be a little on it on Crystalkeep.com.

Yep, there is. Strangely enough, it even has a little charisma-based spellcasting. Yeppers, charisma-based. On the other hand, I can't help but have a little respect for a class that can get decent SA and cast improved invisibility.

I'd make it into a prestige class. :uh-huh:

Nothing wrong with having requirements coming from two base classes. The bladesinger, for example, requires a fighter/spellcaster combination.

FYI: Standard design practice of transferring those old 1e/2e class kits and class combos is to make them into PrCs for 3/3.5e.
