| Shar_the_Black04-23-07, 07:32 AM | Hey folks, I'll be playing in a new Oriental Adventures campaign soon and I was thinking about taking up the witch hunter prestige class down the road. (We're starting out at level 1, so I have plenty of time to prepare). However, after looking at it for a while I've noticed a few things... Here are the requirements... Any nonevil, BAB +5, Knowledge (Arcana or Shadowlands) 10 ranks, Track Feat, able to cast Magic Circle against Taint or Magic Circle against Evil, and some roleplaying fluff. Anyhoo, I've noticed something, an error of some sort. The example witch hunter is a level 3 Shugenja/level 4 ranger/level 1 witch hunter; this isn't making much sense to me as a 3rd level shugenja can't cast said required spell to qualify for this class. Is this a typo on the example, or did they mean Protection against Taint? I was curious if someone could help me and my DM clear this up... Anyway, here's part two of my questions. Let's say you do in fact need Magic Circle against Taint or Magic Circle against Evil. In order to gain access to this spell, you need to be at least 6th level. I was curious if anyone had any advice on how I should set this character up. I was originally hoping to make a character who was an decent caster/ ok fighter (mainly using a bow of some sort) Here are my stats. Str 15, dex 17, con 15, int 10, wis 13, cha 16. Here are the three routes I was thinking of in order to become a witch hunter.... 1. Shugenja 10, then start taking levels of witch hunter at 11th level. 2. Ranger 1/ Shugenja 8, then start taking levels of witch hunter at 10th level. 3. Ranger 2/ Shugenja 6, then start taking levels of witch hunter at 9th level. Now, option 1 would be good for spellcasting purposes, but it'll take the longest of the three routes, and my BAB would be the worst of the three. Option two is alright I suppose, I get the track feat for free, a slightly better BAB and I lose a spell level, but I gain my pretige class one level sooner. The third option is similar to the 2nd, I get an even better BAB, track feat, lose two spell levels, but gain the pretige class another level sooner. Would anyone have any advice for me? Any help would be greatly appreciated. (Also, as an F.Y.I. My DM said that instead of the forced bonus feats the class gives you (Power attack, Cleave, and great cleave) I'm allowed to treat them as fighter bonus feats. Besides that small alteration, the class is unchanged.) |

| iltharanos04-23-07, 05:17 PM | There isn't anthing in the errata about the Witch Hunter requirements, so i'd say the requirements as is would be correct. I'd personally opt for option 3. |
| HidaAkira04-24-07, 11:36 AM | Definitely option 1, possibly 2. You are going to be hurting enough losing the caster levels you are in any case, no need to make them worse. You will be a late entry, but in general the extra caster levels are worth the wait. |
