| hento03-14-07, 07:48 AM | Need your opinions... War Wizard War Wizards are spellcasters who perfect their abilities on the field of war. Hit Die: d4 Requirements To qualify to become a War Wizard, a character must fulfill all the following criteria. Concentration: 4 ranks Knowledge: (Arcana): 5 ranks Spellcraft: 4 ranks Feats: Spell Focus [evocation], Heighten Spell Spells: Ability to prepare and cast arcane spells of 2nd level or higher. Class Skills The War Wizard's class skills (and the key ability for each skill) are Alchemy (Int), Concentration (Con), Craft (Int), Knowledge (Int), Profession (Wis), Scry (Int, exclusive skill), Spellcraft (Int) Skill Points at Each Level: 2 + Int modifier Class Features All the following are class feature of the War Wizard prestige class. Weapon and Armor Proficiency: War Wizards gain proficiency in all simple weapons. They gain no additional proficiency in armor or with shields. Class LevelAttack BonusFort Refl Will Special Spells Per Day 1 +0 +0 +0 +2 Special Chain +1 of existing class 2 +1 +0 +0 +3 Special Widen +1 of existing class 3 +1 +1 +1 +3 Anticipate Attacks +1 of existing class 4 +2 +1 +1 +4 Master of Elements +1 of existing class 5 +2 +1 +1 +4 Special Feat +1 of existing class 6 +3 +2 +2 +5 Special Enlarge +1 of existing class 7 +3 +2 +2 +5 Special Empower +1 of existing class 8 +4 +2 +2 +6 Special Feat +1 of existing class 9 +4 +3 +3 +6 Special Feat +1 of existing class 10 +5 +3 +3 +7 Ever Vigilant +1 of existing class Spells Per Day: When a new War Wizard level is gained, the character gains new spells per day as if he had also gained a level in a spellcasting class. He does not, however, gain any other benefit a character of that class would have gained (improved chance of controlling or rebuking undead, metamagic or item creation feats, hit points beyond those he receives from the prestige class, and so on), except for an increased effective level of spellcasting. If a character had more than one spellcasting class before becoming a War Wizard, he must decide to which class he adds the new level for purposes of determining spells per day. Special Chain: This acts as the metamagic feat chain spell. However, once per level per day, the caster may choose to spontaneously add the chain description to a spell while casting it. This does not raise the level of the spell cast. If the spell already has a chain description on it, it extends the radius by thirty feet. Special Widen: This acts as the metamagic feat widen spell. However, once per level per day, the caster may choose to spontaneously add the widen description to a spell while casting it. This does not raise the level of the spell cast. If the spell already has the widen description on it, it doubles the area. Anticipate Attacks: The War Wizard may add his Int modifier to his armor class as a dodge bonus. Whenever he would be denied his Dex bonus (flatfooted, immobilized, sleeping, etc.) he loses this bonus as well. Master of Elements: The War Wizard can now substitute another type of energy in any spell that has an energy decriptor. He decides on the type of energy while casting the spell. He effectively gains energy sustitution for all five types of energy. Special Feat: This acts any metamagic feat. However, once per level per day, the caster may choose to spontaneously add the feat description to a spell while casting it. This does not raise the level of the spell cast. This feat can have already been obtained, but another feat is not granted and no benefits accrue from stacking the feats. Once chosen, this feat cannot be changed. The War Wizard gains this ability again at 5th, 8th and 9th level. Each time it applies to another feat or if the same feat is chosen, the ability can be used proportionately more often. Special Enlarge: This acts as the metamagic feat enlarge spell. However, once per level per day, the caster may choose to spontaneously add the widen description to a spell while casting it. This does not raise the level of the spell cast. If the spell already has the enlarge description on it, it triples the range. Special Empower: This acts as the metamagic feat empower spell. However, once per level per day, the caster may choose to spontaneously add the empower description to a spell while casting it. This does not raise the level of the spell cast. If the spell already has the widen description on it, it doubles the damage. Ever Vigilant: Through extended time spent on the battle the War Wizard becomes battle ready all of the time. He is never caught flatfooted. Found this one on www.community3e.com/prestige3.html |
| The_Shaman03-14-07, 08:30 AM | Have you checked the war wizard from MoF? It's a 5-level PrC that can be very good for battlefield magic. |
| hento03-14-07, 08:53 AM | Yeah, but you must be non-evil and non-chaotic which makes it a bit of a problem for me, being a chaotic evil drow that I am, and sudden feats from this one seem a lot better. The bonus metamagic widen feat works with 1+Cha mod/day which in my case is -2 :weep: so it wouldn't work. |
| The_Shaman03-14-07, 04:27 PM | Well, you do it once - and while the Cormyrean war wizard is non-chaotic, non-evil, you can always adapt it- say, the Ched Nasadran war wizard school (it's not as if they don't use heavy duty evocations in warfare) might come with... slightly different requirements. Anyway, that ^^ is way overpowered. BTW, are you playing 3.0? I notice you have scry on your class skill list - and I can't quite say I imagine it from a blaster specialist anyway. Also, how in the name of Gygax did you end up with a -2 modifier when you have a +2 racial bonus? Either you are a real disaster with dice or you're dump-statted charisma so bad that even I would be ashamed! ;) |
