I really want to find a PrC that deals with crossbows. If I can't I'd really love some help building one, my DM said he'd allow it since everyone else has a decent prestige class picked out (even the Sorc, he's going RDD).

My group currently has a Bastard Sword-wielding Fighter, a Sword-and-board Paladin, a spear-wielding sorceror who fancies himself a frontline hero, a cleric who has a two-handed mace, a longbow wielding elf wizard, and myself a crossbow wielding Human Fighter. I know, I know, wierd choice right? But we were severely lacking in ranged options and I wanted to play Human Fighter, so I took up the heavy ranged damage role.

Actually, heavy ranged damage is for warmages. As a fighter, you will do some ranged damage, and that's that. Apart from all that... I think the Deepwood sniper PrC from Masters of the Wild works with crossbows, and it won't take much to rig the Peerless Archer from Silver Marches to your character either. I think either would be good in your case - the DS is the master of long-ranged sniping, while the PA is more of a gunslinger thing. BTW, if you're going to be a sniper, you might want to multiclass or at least take able learner. Snipers benefit from having skill points in hide, MS, or spot, and fighters have a big problem there.

Assassins make good snipers. They get spells that make possible to deliver sneak attacks as far as you can shoot or deliver Death Attacks from 60 ft. away.

I built a sniper prestige class for crossbow users. It's pretty overspecialized, but if that's what you're really going for, and your DM is likely to allow homebrew classes, here it is.

P.S. Forgive the shameless self-promotion of my own PrC. And feel free to change the sneak attack / sudden strike requirement to a BaB +5 bonus. I only had it the way it is so that rogue-types could take it by level 6.

For a Crossbow Sniper I favor adapting the Order of the Bow Initiate (CW). It requires changing the prereqs a little to change the flavor form Bow to Crossbow and I'd swap the Crossbow Sniper Feat for Rapid Shot. Beyond that the rest of the class abilities can remain unchanged although I would edit the class's Extended Precision to either double the exsisting range or provide +30' to the range instead of just stating a flat 60' range.

StevenO Is right, and that works fairly well. I've always fel that OOtBI was a little weak, but it's not incredibly shabby. +5d8 damage isn't nothing.

Wow, thanks. I really appreciate all the comments.

I did indeed multi-class with rogue. Right now I'm at
Ftr 2/Rogue 3

So, it's kind of a long road ahead, but it's really important for me to plan ahead. I like to crunch high-level numbers while merely prepping for them.

my brother used a ranger/ftr/deepwood sniper combination w/ a heavy x-bow (wanted that .50 cal feel, i guess) w/out alot of bells and whistles and it's very very good. well balanced, well thought out, highly recommended. particularly w/ the crit and threat (Ex)'s when employing an x-bow, Hunter's Mercy, and so on.
