| Azerith2408-04-07, 12:28 PM | Okay, i've played for 7 years, not an expert, but I'd still say I know my way around the books fairly well when it comes to game balance. I have never like the assassin given in the books, so recently I tried my hand at my own version and I like it, as do my players, except for one of them, So to be fair, I am posting it here and I would like to know everyones opinion. First and foremost let me say that I am the DM in this game. The Assassin Prerequisites : Non-Good, Non-Lawful 8 Ranks in Knowledge(Poison) 8 Ranks in Disguise 8 Ranks in Sneak(Hide and Move Silently) Dodge Mobility BaB + 6 Sneak Attack +2d6 Special: The character must not only kill someone for no other reason other than to become an assassin, he/she must also have an outlaw status in at least one town/village/region for murder. Furthermore, the character must have some sort of physical signature to his kills(leaving a rose, etc.) And Further still, the character must atleast once a month complete a contract.(having a friend give you a copper to stomp on a squirrel does not count.) IF the assassin fails to accept a contract when he has had a chance to do so he loses all abilities gained by becoming an assassin. Skills 6+INT/LVL Hit Die d8 LVL BAB F R W Special 1 +1 0 0 0 Death Attack, Poison Use, Sneak Attack +1d6 2 +2 0 0 0 Uncanny Dodge, Swift as Nightfall 3 +3 1 1 1 Sneak Attack +2d6, Spring Attack 4 +4 1 1 1 Hide In Plain Site, Poison Immunity 5 +5 1 1 1 Sneak Attack +3d6, Improved Uncanny Dodge 6 +6/+1 2 2 2 Fatal Flight 7 +7/+2 2 2 2 Sneak Attack +4d6 8 +8/+3 2 2 2 Back to the Shadows 9 +9/+4 3 3 3 Sneak Attack +5d6 10 +10/+5 3 3 3 Mastery of Death Death Attack: As DMG 3.5 Assassin. Poison Use: As DMG 3.5 Assassin. Sneak Attack: As RAW Rogue Uncanny Dodge: Raw Swift as Nightfall: Balance, Tumble, Jump, Climb +2/Assassin LVL Spring Attack: RAW Hide in plain site:RAW Poison Immunity: As it sounds...immune to poison Improved Uncanny Dodge:RAW Fatal Flight:The range of your ranged sneak attacks increases to 90ft. Back to the Shadows: After any attack that isnt part of a full action, the assassin may retreat to any shadow large enough logically to hide him, the shadow must be 30ft within the assassin and this works like the hide in plain site feat. It does not provoke attacks of oppurtunity and ends the assassins turn after the roll for hide has been confirmed. Mastery of Death: The Assassins various testing with poisons have made his blood just as toxic as all he worked with. The assassin can as a move action choose to do 1d6 con damage to himself which is completely irreperable outside of a wish for 24 hours. In doing so the assassain coats his weapon in his toxic blood which paralizes his opponent DC fortitude negates. DC=10=INT=Assassin LvL. Furthermore, The assassin's Death Attack is no longer affected by Damage reduction(THIS DOES NOT NEGATE DR, THIS SIMPLY IGNORES IT FOR THE PURPOSES OF THE DEATH ATTACK). Any enemy that happens to live through the assassins death attack recieves a penalty to AC from on attacks that the assassin makes in the future. The penalty is equivalent to that creatures DEX MOD. |
| SengerOrbcressen08-04-07, 05:40 PM | Eh, I believe mine is better |
| SengerOrbcressen08-04-07, 05:40 PM | Even though he is level 17 |
| Mojo_Rat08-04-07, 11:37 PM | Why non-lawful?. I woulld think Lawful evil asassins holding to the word of their contract would be a fairly solid part of the Asassin theme although not the absolute. |
| stargate52508-04-07, 11:42 PM | I would switch it to non good, non chaotic. Taking money to kill someone, and doing it effectively is by its very nature a controlled, organized thing. |
| Azerith2408-05-07, 04:04 PM | so other than that, is it fairly balanced? |
| xyric08-08-07, 03:56 PM | Mastery of blood makes no sense. You use poison with NO chance of poisoning yourself so you blood turns toxic? I dunno about that. Also, theres no knowledge poison. there is a craft poison which my DM has decided to use if we want to identify poison. maybe you'd like that better. hit die probably shouldn't be d8 with all the ablities it has and 6 skill points. I don't like the fact that you have to contractually kill someone every month. I just don't understand how that has any bearing on whether you'd lose your skills. Something like that is getting into a slippery slope like: you can't take more levels in barbarian if you don't rage at least once every 2 days. All my jaded opinion (I'm also playing a rogue 6, assassin 8 now) ^ |
| Novabomb08-08-07, 04:04 PM | I don't like the need to complete a contract once a month. Important hits will certainly require great amounts of prep time. Additionally everyone needs a break once in a while, assassins are no exception. |
