Weapon Focus (light gunblade/ranged or heavy gunblade/ranged), Pointblank Shot,
Power Attack
Skills: knowledge (religion) 2 ranks
Special: Must have killed a formidable opponent (at least 2HD higher than you) using a
gunblade in both a ranged and melee combat.

Skill Points: 4+Int modifier
Class Skills: Climb(str), Diplomacy(cha), Jump(str), Knowledge(religion)(int), Listen(wis), Spot(wis), Sense Motive(wis), Tumble(dex)

Weapon and Armor Proficiencies: A Son of Squall gains no weapon and armor proficiencies.

Critical Shot (Ex): The first ability a Son of Squall learns is how to time his shots with the swing of his sword.
At first level when a Son of Squall confirms a critical hit he may expend one round of his gun blade's ammunition.
In doing so the target of the critical hit takes damage as if hit by the gun blade's ranged attack
(2d6 for light or 2d8 for heavy) in addition to normal damage.
This does not cause an attack of opportunity. The extra damage from the gun blade's ranged
attack is not multiplied. This ability may be used against creatures normally immune to critical hits.
When a crit threat comes up against such a creature roll to confirm normally,
on a success add the gun blade's ranged damage to the attack (the base damage is still not multiplied).

Rough Drive (Ex): At first level a Son of Squall learns to use the Rough Drive special attack 1/day.
You dash towards your opponent, your gun blade sparking as it drags across the ground.
When you reach your opponent you violently slice upwards. As a full round action you may
charge your opponent at an additional +2 to the normal charges bonus (total of +4) and you do not suffer the normal -2 to AC.
If your attack succeeds it is automatically a crit threat. If the attack was already a crit threat
this does not automatically make it a confirm critical hit. This ability may be used in conjunction
with Critical Shot but may not be used on creatures normally immune to critical hits.
If a creature is immune to a critical hits critical shot may not be used in conjunction with rough drive.

Bonus Feat: At 2nd, 5th and 8th level you gain a bonus fighter feat.
A Son of Squall may take fighter feats as if he had levels in fighter equal to ½ his Son of Squall levels (rounded down).
If a Son of Squall already has fighter levels his fighter levels stack.

Critical Shot (Ex): Upon reaching 4th level when a Son of Squall uses his
critical shot ability he may choose to expend two rounds of ammunition. If he does he adds one
more die of damage to his ranged damage (total of 3d6 for light or 3d8 for heavy).
A gun blade must have at least two rounds of ammunition to use this ability.

Fatal Circle (Su): At 4th level a Son of Squall has mastered the a special technique call the Fatal Circle 1/day.
You aim your weapon into the air, raining a hail of bullets down upon your enemies.
As a full round action you may make a single attack, anyone within 30ft takes 96 damage.
On successful reflex save they take only half damage. You must have at least one round of ammunition.
No matter how many rounds of ammunition you have left they are all considered to be expended at the end of this ability.

Critical Shot (Ex): When a Son of squall reaches 7th level he may expand
an additional round of ammunition (total of 3) when using his critical shot ability.
This adds an additional ranged damage die (total of 4d6 for light or 4d8 for heavy).
A gun blade must have at least three rounds of ammunition to use this ability.

Blasting Zone (Su): One of the more powerful special attacks, Blasting Zone, is learned at 7th level.
This may be used 1/day. Leaping in to the air you set your sights on every enemy you can see,
unleashing a fury of bullets on all of them. As a full round action you may make a single ranged
attack at your highest base attack bonus with your gun blade at anyone with 100ft.
Roll each attack separately, anyone stuck by this attack takes damage as if struck by a critical hit
(taking 4d6 from a light gun blade or 4d8 from a heavy gun blade), creatures immune to critical hits take normal damage instead.
This attack does not actually expend any ammunition and does not require any rounds to be in the gun blade

Critical Shot (Ex): When a Son of squall reaches 10th level he may expand an additional round of ammunition
(total of 4) when using his critical shot ability. This adds an additional ranged damage die
(total of 5d6 for light or 5d8 for heavy). A gun blade must have at least four rounds of ammunition to use this ability.

End of Heart (Su): Often call the lion's heart, End of Heart, is the most powerful special technique a Son of Squall will ever learn.
Your gun blade surges with a massive energy, as you unleash the devastating power in a flurry
of strikes you fire off you rounds simultaneously. Usable 1/day this technique requires your gun
blade's ammunition to be full, expending all of the rounds in the process.
As a full round action you must make a melee touch attack against you target.
Anyone struck must make a fortitude save (DC = 15 + ½ class level + your con modifier) or be disintegrated,
on a successful save the target takes 30d6 damage.

Here are the gunblades i use in my games

Light Gunblade - Longsword/Pistol
Cost - 20 gp
Weight - 6 lbs
Damage - 1d8(slashing) / 2d6(piercing)
Critical - 19-20 x2 / 20 x2
Range Inc - 40 ft.
Ammo - 8 shots
Type - Exotic One-Handed
Description - The Gunblade is the fusion between a longsword and a pistol.
You can attack with either the blade end (1d8) or the gun end (2d6).
Follow all the normal rules for firing in close combat and for firing into melee as normal.
As a part of a full attack action, you can attack with the blade end as normal then take one shot at a -5 penalty.
This does not provoke attacks of opportunity even when firing the gun.
This shot has to be at the same target that you attacked with the sword.
If you have the rapid shot feat, you can take an addtional shot following all the normal rules.

Heavy Gunblade - Bastardsword/Revolver
Cost - 45 gp
Weight - 9 lbs
Damage - 1d10(slashing) / 2d8(piercing)
Critical - 19-20 x2 / 20 x2
Range Inc - 30 ft.
Ammo - 6 shots
Type - Exotic Two-Handed
Description - The Heavy Gunblade is the "big brother" to the normal gunblade.
This one is forged from a revolver (usually a magnum) and a bastardsword.
This must be used two-handed for 1 1/2 Str mod to damage even if you also have
Exotic Weapon Proficiency (Bastard Sword).
You can attack with either the blade end (1d10) or the gun end (2d8).

Reloading a gunblade is a move action. when taking weapon specific feats (such as Weapon Focus)
you must specifiy if the feat applies to the melee OR the ranged portion of the weapon.
gunblades follow the rules for enchantmeants as if they were double weapons.

I'm going to say this nicely before anyone has a chance to get rude about it. Gunblades are NOT ranged weapons, they are melee weapons. The 'ammo' is an explosive charge meant to vibrate the blade to give it more cutting power. The blade is situated where the opening of the barrel would be, so there is no place for a bullet to go because of this.

This is D&D. This is like saying ZOMG make me a night elf race from WoW. No gunblades.

Hey, it's his world, if he and/or his player's want a gunblade, that isn't so bad as long as it coincides with the technology level of his world. The PrC looks good, but yeah, like he said, in FF8 the gunblades were melee weapons, to be honest, i would increase the die for damage once, from d8 to d10, and have it deal some sonic damage. like so

Gunblade, Heavy
Cost: 400 gp
Damage: Medium: 1d8 or 1d10 (see text), Small: 1d6 or 1d8 (see text)
Critical: 19-20/x2
Range Increment: -
Weight: 5lb.
Damage Type: Slashing/Sonic when 1 round is fired when hitting or Slashing when a round isn't fired when hitting
The Heavy Gunblade, is a unique weapon. It is a longsword, with a revolver handle attached.
The rounds are blank rounds that cause the blade to vibrate, which causes more damage, plus 3 sonic damage.
When you fire a shell, you deal 1d10 (or 1d8 if small) instead of 1d8 (instead of 1d6 if small), due the the intense vibration of the sword.
When wishing to use the round however, you must take a -2 penalty to your attack roll.
The amount of round that a gunblade can hold is 6. Reloading a gunblade is a standard action, a move action of a speed loader (like a stamp with bullet on the end. Costs 5 gold)
The round cost 10 gp each
BTW, first ever custom anything

thank you Aloki for your construtive criticism. Daisuke, though i do apprecciate that fact that you were not rude, this thread is not a discussion on how a "gunblade" works, nor the historical use of bladed revolvers. i only wanted feedback on the balance of the overall class based on the weapon i utilize in my games.

i like it... but the last ability seems like a BIT too much
i dont think it should just disentigrate them with with a touch attack
that sounds like something that sould be an epic level ability
maybe... two full attack actions in one turn would be a bit better?

I'm no good at balance. But I just wanted all the FF8 nay-sayers to know that in Parasite Eve 2, Squall's Gunblade (bonus weapon) was a shotgun. Ranged. With melee.

Let's see...

First, the gunblades don't look bad.

My immediate problem with the PrC is the "empty levels" - you don't get anything at 3rd, 6th, or 9th level. There should be a way to redistribute the abilities to fix this - off the top of my head, I'd move the Critical Shots to 1st, 3rd, 6th, and 9th level.

What's the damage type for Fatal Circle? Does the user take damage from the attack? And I think the damage is too high - 96 damage is equal to 27d6, which is really high for a 9th level character's AoE attack.

Blasting Zone: Are they "real" critical hits? For example, is the +1 damage from Point Blank Shot applied? For that matter, are any modifiers applied? Does the user suffer penalties for range to the attack rolls against distant targets? (With the lousy range the blades have, this'll be nearly everyone.) Do the people in back get cover bonuses?

End of heart looks fine.

Actually, I'm not a big fan of 1/day maneuvers and tempted to try and remake the PrC abilities like the 9 Swords maneuvers - rather than all the abilities being awesome 1/day, reduce them in power but allow them 1/encounter or so. But overall it looks okay.

You have to be 5th level character to enter the prestige class(BAB +5) so techically 14th level maybe higher. But that is alot but why is it fixed 96 damage is it something from the series or something?

perhaps it was meant to read 9d6? It is pronounced the same way after all, hehe.

What happens if you sunder a gunblade? BOOM!
Also, maybe you could fill the dead levels with a bonus to attacks and damage with the weapon.
