| Talisman07-08-07, 11:49 PM | Master of Cherry Blossoms Illusion, deception and trickery are the weapons of the master of cherry blossoms. This warrior specializes in powers that confuse and bewilder, allowing the master to slip in a devastating attack before his enemies are even aware of the threat he poses. Level BAB Fort Ref Will Special Save Save Save Abilities 1 +0 +0 +2 +2 Sneak attack +1d6 2 +1 +0 +3 +3 Shadows in the leaves 3 +2 +1 +3 +3 Sneak attack +2d6 4 +3 +1 +4 +4 Cherry petal storm 5 +3 +1 +4 +4 Sneak attack +3d6 6 +4 +2 +5 +5 Dancing petals of Heaven 7 +5 +2 +5 +5 Sneak attack +4d6 8 +6 +2 +6 +6 Kiss of the poppy 9 +6 +3 +6 +6 Sneak attack +5d6 10 +7 +3 +7 +7 Wind in the boughs Requirements Feats: Improved Feint, Persuasive or Skill Focus (Bluff) Bluff: 8 ranks Concentration: 4 ranks Disguise: 4 ranks Hide: 6 ranks Intimidate: 4 ranks Class Ability: Sneak attack +1d6 Skill Points: 6+Int modifier Class Skills: Balance (Dex), Bluff (Chr), Concentration (Con), Disguise (Chr), Escape Artist (Dex), Hide (Dex), Intimidate (Chr), Move Silently (Dex), Sense Motive (Wis), Sleight of Hand (Dex), Tumble (Dex) Hit Die: d6 Weapon and Armor Proficiencies: The master of cherry petals gains no proficiency with any weapons or armor. Sneak attack (Ex): The master of cherry blossoms deals extra damage to a foe who is flanked, flat-footed, or otherwise denied their Dexterity bonus to AC. This stacks with any sneak attack ability the master might already have. Sneak attack damage increases by +1d6 every other level. Shadows in the leaves (Sp): At 2nd level the master of cherry blossoms can create illusionary duplicates of himself which mirror his actions and are equal to a mirror image spell. If the master feints in combat while shadows in the leaves is active, he gains a +4 circumstance bonus on his Bluff check. The master can use this ability 3/day; his caster level is equal to his class level. Cherry petal storm (Sp): At 4th level the master of cherry blossoms can, with a simple gesture, conjure a raging storm of cherry petals that block sight and impair movement. This effect is identical to a sleet storm spell, except that the effects are caused by raging winds and clouds of cherry petals, not sleet. The master of cherry blossoms is immune to all negative effects of his own cherry petal storm (but not that of other masters of cherry blossoms). This ability can be used 3/day; the master's caster level is equal to his class level. Dancing petals of Heaven (Sp): At 6th level the master of cherry blossoms can conjure up a burst of dazzlingly colorful petals, which drift through the air to create a magical effect. This is equivalent to a rainbow pattern spell; the master of cherry blossoms is immune to the effects of his own dancing petals of Heaven. This ability can be used 3/day; the master's caster level is equal to his class level, and the save DC is 14+Cha modifier. Kiss of the poppy (Sp): At 8th level the master of cherry blossoms can create a cloud of cherry petals which are imbued with a deadly poison. This effect is identical to a cloudkill spell, except that the master is not affected by his own kiss of the poppy. Alternately, a master of cherry blossoms may choose to make his kiss of the poppy nonlethal. In this case, the poison takes effect normally but victims who would be reduced to 0 Constitution are rendered unconscious with 1 point of Constitution instead. An unconscious character will not awaken from loud noises or gentle handling, but rough handling or any amount of damage awakens them. In addition, all Constitution damage is restored at the rate of 1 point per hour. The master of cherry blossoms may choose which version of kiss of the poppy to use at the time of casting. This ability can be used 3/day; the master's caster level is equal to his class level and the save DC is 15+Cha modifier. Wind in the boughs (Sp): At 10th level the master of cherry blossoms gains his ultimate ability: the power to simultaneously render himself invisible and create a quasi-real duplicate from magical cherry petals. This effect is identical to a mislead spell except that the illusory double does not require concentration to maintain. This ability can be used 3/day; the master's caster level is equal to his class level, and the save DC is 16+Cha modifier. Can anyone guess what manga I swiped this concept from? |
| malykoth07-09-07, 09:40 PM | I like it...it's a nice idea, for a hero or a villain. I'm not too good at balancing classes, but it seems okay to me. |
| Talisman07-15-07, 11:35 PM | :bump: |
| Yosho07-17-07, 07:15 AM | You took this from Samurai Deeper Kyo right? Other than that it looks very interesting and probly balanced. Though I must ask why the good will? |
| The_Shaman07-17-07, 07:19 AM | And, for that matter, what does Iron Will have to do with it? |
| malykoth07-17-07, 11:46 AM | And, for that matter, what does Iron Will have to do with it? If I had to make a guess, I'd say because the abilities have more to do with the powers of the mind than that of speed or strength (in that the petals are summoned/created/controlled by the mind). The good Will saves and Iron Will represent this focusing of the spirit/mind. This is just a theory, so if not...then meh. |
| RobbyPants07-17-07, 12:36 PM | I like the idea a lot. It's a very unique way to make a magic using fighter/rogue type. Nice flavor. Perhaps, consider adding 4 ranks of Concentration to the list of prerequs in place of the Iron Will feat. Similar to the Ghost Face Killer (CAdv), the skill ranks serve no real function to the class, but rather, help define the flavor as a mysictical warrior-type. |
| malykoth07-17-07, 04:37 PM | As a suggestion, perhaps the MoCB could choose to have the "Kiss of the Poppy" cause unconsciousness instead of death? Those who would have been killed by an identical cloudkill spell would simply be rendered unconscious for a number of hour equal to the effect's caster level. Those rendered unconscious will only awaken earlier if they sustain hit point damage (including nonlethal damage)...so a good slap to the face will wake them, but not tying them up or moving them. He can choose which version to use when he activates the ability, but he still only get's three uses maximum, not three of each type. This way, a less evil MoCB can clear away the rabble to get to his main foe. |

Good idea...and Concentration could, theoretically, be useful with all the SLAs. Good old crazy White Raven. I've got a "Master of Five Shadows" based on Whatsisname the Red Tiger, as well. |

| korcheck10-08-07, 02:39 PM | seams kind of powerful for a PrC that can be taken at 6th lvl might add another feat requirement but thats about it the class look good congrats. |
| Wight_Chocolate10-08-07, 02:46 PM | Nobody with an ounce of masculinity is going to get within ten feet of this class. I hope you realise that. I'd actually consider making that a special ability. "A Will save is required to engage a Master of Cherry Blossoms in melee combat without a reach weapon." |
| The_Shaman10-08-07, 05:47 PM | Nobody with an ounce of doubt of his masculinity is going to get within ten feet of this class. I hope you realise that." Fix'd, as far as males go. |
| Wight_Chocolate10-08-07, 06:17 PM | No, no, seriously. There's a certain, admittedly fairly wide, area of "fruity" to which that fix can comfortably apply. Long hair. Wearing pink. Kissing (platonically) another man. This prestige class has, at velocities unimaginable, minced far, far beyond the boundaries of that area and into a realm that even the most self-confidently manly man would give no second thought to throwing a football at and shoving into a locker. |
| The_Shaman10-08-07, 06:48 PM | Why? It represents a master/mistress of misdirection and illusion, a form of an illusionist with a blade. So the medium is blossoms instead of shadows... matter of taste, I say. Sure, it does does not ooze machismo like say, the Leviathan Hunter, but I don't see what's so anti-mannish about it. The MoCB won't prove masculinity on the field of battle, but doesn't have any restrictions against proving it where it counts - in the bedroom :P . |
| Wight_Chocolate10-08-07, 06:57 PM | The MoCB won't prove masculinity on the field of battle, but doesn't have any restrictions against proving it where it counts - in the bedroom :P . It does if every interesting woman you meet ignores you because they assume you're, you know, not interested. |
| Talisman10-08-07, 08:43 PM | Wight Chocolate, I think you're insane. Just my opinion, though, and you're certainly entitled to yours. Taking a level of this PrC doesn't mean you have "Master of Cherry Blossoms" stamped on your forehead. It simply means you have access to a certain pool of skills. Are the spells mirror image, sleet storm and cloudkill somehow un-masculine? Is sneak attack inherently feminine? Heck, if it bothers you, re-name it "Master of the Whirling Hell-Blades," and replace all the flower-themed effects with tiny, black, spinning daggers covered with masculine symbols. And just so you know, I happen to have long hair in real life, and I am a decidedly non-"fruity" member of the male species. :P |
| Wight_Chocolate10-09-07, 03:44 AM | Taking a level of this PrC doesn't mean you have "Master of Cherry Blossoms" stamped on your forehead. I think people will notice the smell. And the fact that you're trailing sakura petals everywhere. Are the spells mirror image, sleet storm and cloudkill somehow un-masculine? No. But, see, none of these spells are typically powered by flower petals. Heck, if it bothers you, re-name it "Master of the Whirling Hell-Blades," and replace all the flower-themed effects with tiny, black, spinning daggers covered with masculine symbols. Doesn't bother me. I won't be using it in any event. I'm just saying. And just so you know, I happen to have long hair in real life, and I am a decidedly non-"fruity" member of the male species. :P Right, like I said. Long hair is, by and large, a feminine trait, but it's entirely possible for one who is comfortable in their masculinity to possess it. This is different. DELICATE. PINK. FLOWERS. FLOWERS THAT, IN FACT, ARE THE VERY SYMBOL OF FEMININE BEAUTY. FUELLING ALL OF YOUR CLASS ABILITIES. And seriously, if you're actually trying to argue logically against me here, don't. Exaggeration for comedic effect, folks. |
| Lord_of_the_Bump10-09-07, 03:56 AM | I've always been a believer in the right of the individual to speak his mind. I also happen to think that this is a thread created by someone who wanted constructive criticism and not simply the thoughts of an individual determined to convert the thread to something other than what it should be. I have a couple of favourite sayings that go something like 'If you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen' and 'It is better to remain silent and be thought a fool rather than speaking and removing all doubt'. |
| The_Shaman10-09-07, 04:30 AM | Actually, you know what? Instead of the fixed spell-likes, you can just give it a separate spellcasting progression a la assassin, but somewhat limited and with predominantly illusion and conjuration spells. This way you're much more versatile - a certain MoCB might be more interested in making a silent image-ish illusion rather than a mirror image one. The bluff SF can cover minor misdirections like ventriloquism, etc. and WC, long hair being a feminine trait... that's now. In the early medieval ages, for example, Franks, Goths and most other "barbaric" tribes considered it a sign of status and honor to have you hair long; Slaves and convicts (those who weren't executed) had to be shaved. Plus, on women thinking you're not interested, that impression can be quite easy to change ;) ... Did you notice the PrC requiring SF bluff or persuasive? I'm pretty sure the whole blossom thing was actually thought by a man as a trick to get girls off their guard - and in bed. |

Yes. OK. Fine. I apologise. Excuse me for trying to say something funny, oh wise one. I won't do it again. |

Just because I disagree with you doesn't mean I'm trying to shut you up. I welcome any *civil* feedback. You were civil, and for that I thank you. Actually, you know what? The idea was that the MoCB has limited abilities, but powerful ones. Also, I don't want to write up cherry-petal descriptions for 20 or 30 spells! |

There are already enough semi-spell casting rogue classes out there this is different enough to give it a certain uniqueness that the core PrC like it lack. |

As for cherry-petal descriptions, you don't need that - just choose thematically appropriate spells. The spell descriptions provide the mechanics: how the spell looks like is up to the player and DM. Mirror images might shatter, turn into shadow or petals when hit - but it will still be the same 2nd level spell. |
