Graewolf 08-09-07, 12:14 PM	In the Abjurant champion prestige class, the class feature Abjurant Armor states that "any time you cast an abjuration spell that grants an armor or shield bonus to AC, you can increase the value of that bonus by your abjurant champion class level. Abjurant champions rely on mage armor, shield, and similar spells instead of actual armor." The problem I am having with this is mage armor isn't an abjuration spell, its a conjuration spell. And once I looked through the PHB, spell compendium, and several other books I could not find a single abjuration spell that grants an armor bonus to AC. Any suggestions??

I belive that it was errata'ed that Mage Armour should've always been Abjuration. Particurally after that class came out.
Skrylarin 08-09-07, 12:30 PM	There's only one armor bns spell thats abj that I know of and thats lumanuis armor from Exalted Deeds. And thats a santified spell so U have to be good in some shape or form hehe !
Rakor 08-09-07, 12:45 PM	Huh, I always thought it was just abjuration spells that gave an AC bonus. Shield does still work though.
Graewolf 08-10-07, 03:53 AM	I have checked the errata, and there is nothing there for mage armor... there must be something I'm missing though... because it clearly lists mage armor as an example or an abjuration spell... is there a way on here to ask wizards about it?
The_Shaman 08-10-07, 04:59 AM	You can ask customer service. Still, their rulings are sometimes ambiguous. There is ectoplasmic armor in LM, but it is only for uncorporeal foes... Or you can actually research a spell that gives armor bonus to AC. You know, mages can do that.
Howland Reed 08-10-07, 07:37 PM	It was not errata'd as far as I know. WotC has basically said, "yeah, the guy who wrote that class screwed up. He should have worded it so that Mage Armor was included, that was his intent...but he didn't word it that way, so it doesn't count". Screwy, I know, but that's the ruling last I heard. They could have reversed since then. There are other spells it works with, though...Lesser Deflect and Deflect (from PHII) are nice.
Rakor 08-11-07, 01:12 PM	I am no where near books but I am pretty sure that the class specifies armor and shield bonuses and that both of those spells are deflection bonuses. Admittedly when I made an Abjurant Champion those werethe spells I used but I don't think it actually works.
Twylyght 08-11-07, 05:45 PM	Lesser deflect is a deflection bonus, but strangely Deflect itself is a shield bonus. It still only last for one attack though.
Howland Reed 08-13-07, 04:12 PM	I was AFB, and apparently misremembered the class ability...I thought it was any abjuration spell that granted an AC bonus, not just an armor/shield bonus. Well, there's still Repelling Shield. :) Personally, I'd just houserule it. Take out the word "abjuration" from the ability, and presto...any spell that grants an armor/shield bonus is covered. Is that so overpowering?

Admittedly when I made an Abjurant Champion those werethe spells I used but I don't think it actually works. Mage Armor and Shield are armor and shield bonuses respectively: An invisible but tangible field of force surrounds the subject of a mage armor spell, providing a +4 armor bonus to AC. Shield creates an invisible, tower shield-sized mobile disk of force that hovers in front of you. It negates magic missile attacks directed at you. The disk also provides a +4 shield bonus to AC. The "Protection From..." series and derivatives all grant armor bonuses against certain enemies. Wrong: First, the subject gains a +2 deflection bonus to AC and a +2 resistance bonus on saves. Mage Armor is still Conjuration. Nothing has come in to say that has changed. The only thing that suggests otherwise are a typo in the example stat block. Abjurant Armor's own entry does not say Mage Armor is an abjuration spell. Read the entry under Abjurant Armor. It says Abjurant Champions rely on Mage Armor and Shield instead of actual armor. Which does not say anything about whether the bonus applies. All the sentence says is that 1) Mage Armor can replace actual armor, and 2) Abjurant Champions use it. It does not in any way say that the bonus from Abjurant Armor applies to it. To the OP: Luminous Armor, from the Book of Exalted Deeds is an Abjuration spell granting an Armor bonus.
Meep326 08-21-07, 02:14 AM	AC 24, touch 13, flat-footed 22 (+2 Dex, +9 armor, +1 deflection, +2 natural) That's from the example given, the +9 armor is from Mage Armor (which it says is already cast on himself).
forsaken1111 08-21-07, 02:57 AM	We solved it in our game by making Mage Armor a dual-school spell of the Abjuration/Conjuration schools once we read that they had added dual-school spells.
