| sir_argenon09-22-07, 05:19 PM | Martial Arcanist (Ex): At 5th level, you master the art of combining your militant and mystical training. From this point on, your caster level in a chosen arcane spellcasting class is equal to your base attack bonus (unless it would otherwise be higher). For example, a 7th-level fighter/1st-level wizard/5th-level abjurant champion has a base attack bonus of +12 (and thus a caster level of 12th). You can apply this benefit to only one arcane class to which you have added spellcasting levels by your advancement as an abjurant champion. now, i am unable to figure out what EXACTLY this does. in the example provided, the guy is a FGH:7, WIZ:1, ABJ CH:5. which makes him a 13 lvl character. he is a 6th lvl caster and his BAB would be 12... im good so far.... but does that mean that: (A) he uses a 6th level spell progression who's spells are cast @ 12th lvl instead of 6th or (B) he is a 12th level caster, with access to 12th level spell progression??? any help clarifying this would b great.. thanks |
| dman1123509-22-07, 05:24 PM | Your caster level is 12. You don't gain spells as a 12th level caster, but you cast the ones you can as a 12th level caster (duration, damage, SR, etc.) |
| Mojo_Rat09-22-07, 05:31 PM | As the previous poster said. Your caster level would be 12. but you would have spells known etc as a level 6 wizard. |
| StevenO09-22-07, 11:22 PM | If you are wondering the "You can apply this benefit to only one arcane class to which you have added spellcasting levels by your advancement as an abjurant champion." part means that if you have a Sorcerer1/Duskblade5/AbC5 you'd get a CL 10 only to those base spellcasting types that get improved by the AbC. If the Sor1/DB5/AbC5 casts as a Sor6/DB5 then only the Sor gets CL 10 while the DB is still CL 5; if instead casting was as a Sor5/DB6 then both classes would enjoy a CL 10. Back to the OP, the answer is A. A Ftr7/Wiz1/AbC5 would follow all the spell prep rules for a Wiz 6 but casts them at 12th level. |

| FrostWolf09-25-07, 01:11 PM | May ask a question in reguards to this class? How is the sample character getting his AC so high? Mage Armor isn't an Abjuration spell. |
| Malchius09-25-07, 01:15 PM | What happens with this ability and practiced spellcaster? |
| dman1123509-25-07, 01:43 PM | They messed up. It should be five lower. Your CL increases by four up to a max of your HD. |
| StevenO09-25-07, 07:50 PM | What happens with this ability and practiced spellcaster? You apply them in the order you desire. Generally it will be much better to apply Martial Arcanist first as it just sets your CL after which PS can increase it up to your HD. |
