| Cuindless11-17-07, 02:27 AM | I DM a campaign set in a town that is land locked except for a central lake. One of my PCs really wants to play a pirate-type character and has his eye on the Dread Pirate PrC. I've suggested that he look at something else because of the setting, but he won't budge. Do you have any advice on how to alter the PrC so that it is more representative of a lakeside setting? I was thinking a "Longshoreman" type character, more focused on a useful knowledge of uneven combat and ropes. |

| tomersss11-17-07, 05:01 PM | it really dosnt matter whats ur char called, just wear pirate pirate clothes and ur all set,a fighter can be a pirate too... |
| Cartigan11-17-07, 05:18 PM | Long as he owns a 10k gp boat, I don't think it matters. Though "Scourge of the Lake" isn't really the king of thing that strikes fear in the hearts of men. |

The PrC really doesn't work at all for your setting, you've got that right, and if you have to adapt it to your setting you'll be changing it so much that it'll hardly resemble the Dread Pirate your player wants to play. I say continue to talk it over with the player and try to convince him/her that something else is likely more appropirate. Like a Swashbuckler or a Factotum even. |

| SolenVlos11-22-07, 05:52 PM | he can be a pirate stuck in a sealess land earging to return to the sea, or have an air ship. |

See, he's already playing a Swashbuckler/Rogue. We've already talked about how it doesn't really mesh with the setting, so he came up with a back story about a pirate who has a price on his head and decided to lay low in a landlocked area. The thing is, he likes the PrC. If I disallow it, I know he'll be disappointed. |
| bkdubs12311-25-07, 12:00 PM | Well, then... let him play it, but don't change any of the abilities or prerequisites. If he wants to play a pirate with shipfaring abilities who doesn't have a ship or anywhere to sail, then that's his business. |
