| The_Shaman05-24-07, 04:35 AM | I haven't seen one, but except for the required feats, there is little that makes archmage more appealing to wizards than to sorcerers - I was aiming for an archmage with my sorcerer (in the very long run). It takes a while to get in, but I think a sorcerer archmage is nothing to sneeze at. If you want it, you might ask your DM to accept one of the "fixes" that give sorcerers bonus feats in a way similar to what wizards get (metamagic and bloodline/heritage, for example). The skills required are sorc class skills, and if you are the main arcanist in the party it would be good to boost them. The Archmage features, which require you sacrificing spell slots, are hitting sorcerer in one of the areas that don't hurt so much - providing versatility at the cost of spell slots. And having spells from different schools... Well, since you're playing a sorcerer and not one of those ripoffs (dread necro, warmage, beguiler), you might as well play it for what it's worth. In the meantime (levels 6-15) consider getting yourself another PrC, ideally one that gives you bonus feats. |
| runestar05-24-07, 06:03 AM | Some of the archmage special abilities like mastery of elements and arcane fire seem to benefit the sorc more than the wizard (or at least, the sorc appears to be in a better position to benefit from them). Plus, sacrificed slots arguably hurt the sorc less than the wizard, since the sorc has more slots.:) |
| Ertai Planeswalker05-25-07, 05:29 AM | Sor5/[Insert prc here]/Archmage5 is the classic sorcerer build afaik. I like Mage of the Arcane Order, because it removes one of the sorcerer's greatest weaknesses. Since it requires you to take three feats: Arcane Preparation, Cooperative Spell and a Metamagic Feat of choice, you must be either Human or take one or more flaws in order to get the required feats in time. Of course, then your 6th, 9th and 12th level feats go into Spell Focus x2 and Skill Focus: Spellcraft. That leaves little room for custom feats, but it sure is powerfull. |
| runestar05-25-07, 10:18 AM | Sorc typically need to be at least lv6 before they can prc out (since that is typically when they cast 3rd lv spells), but otherwise, Ertai is spot on in that there is absolutely no incentive to go pure sorc anyways.:) |
