| DraconiumX04-10-07, 07:05 PM | So, I was looking around the internet the other day, and realized I couldn't find too many Warlock-specific prestige classes. I know of the three in Complete Mage, but I wanted something...different that didn't require being holy or multiclassing. I also wanted something that focused more on the dark eldritch energies that flow through the Warlock (a class which I find endlessly interesting.) So, I decided to make my own prestige class. What do you guys think? *** Eldritch Shaper The Warlock is a character who is filled with the swirling and churning masses of dark eldritch energies, powers that can control him and override his mind and morals with its dark influences. The Eldritch Shaper, on the other hand, is a Warlock who’s enhanced mental capabilities, focus, and concentration skills enable him to control his dark powers more than he previously could. The Eldritch Shaper is able to temporarily manifest the eldritch powers themselves in ways he previously could not, wielding them as powerful weapons and as useful tools. This PC is a focused individual, willing to put his mind and his powers into his abilities to shape pure energy. The Eldritch Shaper is able to draw his eldritch energies around himself, wielding them completely at his disposal. Hit Die: d6 Prerequisites: To qualify as an Eldritch Shaper, a character must fulfill all the following requirements: Base Attack Bonus: +4 Alignment: Any Chaotic and/or Evil Skills: Concentration 8 Ranks, Craft (Any) 5 Ranks Feats: Skill Focus (Concentration), Iron Will Special: Eldritch Blast 3d6, Voracious Dispelling Invocation. Class Skills: The Eldritch Shaper’s class skills (and the key abilities for each skill) are Bluff (Cha), Concentration (Con), Craft (Int), Knowledge (Arcana) (Int), Knowledge (the planes) (Int), Knowledge (Religion) (Int), Profession (Wis), Sense Motive (Wis), Spellcraft (Int), and Use Magic Device (Cha). Skill Points at Each Level: 2 + Int modifier. Class Features: All the following are clas features of the Eldritch Shaper prestige class: Weapon and Armor Proficiencies: The Eldritch Shaper gain no proficiency with any weapon or armor. Eldritch Manifestations: These abilities represent the Shaper’s ability to wield his dark energies as weapons other than a simple blast of brute force. These skills are extremely dependent on a high Concentration skill, because it is difficult for a shaper to keep these chaotic energies flowing consistently and in check. The duration that these manifestations last is also dependent on his Concentration skill. However, because of the familiarity which the Shaper has with his eldritch powers, he does not need to focus or Concentrate on sustaining any of the prolonged manifestations listed below; instead, they last only a specific amount of time, thus being regulated by his ranks in Concentrate. The Shaper can perform these any number of times per day, but wielding any of these powers can be extremely fatiguing on the Shaper, and if he is unable to withstand the damaging strength of these energies, he will be drained of some of his more powerful abilities, as well as a little of his own strength. After dismissing an Eldritch Manifestation (or if it dissipates on its own), he must make a DC 20 Will save or he will be unable to use any of his Eldritch Manifestations for 1 hour, and will be fatigued for 5 minutes. As the Shaper becomes stronger and more in control of these energies, these penalties are reduced by 6 minutes per Shaper level and 1 minute for every 2 Shaper levels, respectively. Normally, dismissing these manifestations is simple for a Shaper to accomplish, but the longer the eldritch energies stays manifested, they can grow wild and uncontrollable. Thus, when they reach the final stages of their manifestation, they become more difficult to safely dismiss. These energies are easier to summon, but can be difficult to dismiss. The Shaper can normally dismiss these manifestations as a free action, but if there is one round left on the manifestation, it takes a standard action to safely dismiss it. If the Shaper is unable to willingly dismiss these abilities and they dissipate on their own (whether the Shaper becomes unconscious, paralyzed, or otherwise incapacitated), the eldritch energies will spin wildly out of control and the Shaper must make a DC 25 Will Save or suffer the same consequences as above. The Eldritch Manifestations are considered spell-like abilities and use the same rules and limitations as the Warlock’s invocations, and can be imbued with any one of the eldritch essences, if applicable, though he will be unable to imbue them with any of the eldritch blast shape invocations. Eldritch Blade – As a standard action, the Shaper can summon his dark energies to summon forth any non-reach, non-range weapon in his on-hand. It has the same shape and size of a normal weapon of the same type, but it is weightless to the Shaper. It cannot be sundered, cannot be shatter-ed, cannot be dropped, and the Shaper cannot be disarmed of it. It is not considered metal, and the Shaper will still suffer the same penalties if he is not proficient in the weapon. Each of the blades will last for (Concentration ÷ 2) rounds, rounded down, until it dissipates. At 3rd level, the Shaper can also conjure an eldritch blade in his off hand as a standard action, but will still suffer the same penalties if he is not proficient in it, as well as with Two-Weapon Fighting. These weapons deal the normal damage that the weapon(s) would deal, including any Ability or Feat bonuses (such as Weapon Focus or Weapon Finesse). At 1st Level, these weapons gain a +1 bonus for every two levels of Eldritch Shaper. At 3rd Level, these weapons instead deal damage equal to the total damge their eldritch blast would do. At 7th Level, these weapons are able to bypass 5 points of any and all energy or damage reduction. Dark Armor – The Shaper is able to summon his energies to swirl around him, no longer agents of damage and destruction, but instead of shielding and protection. They surround the Shaper like a shimmering aura, granting the Shaper a profane armor bonus equal to the Shaper’s eldritch blast d6 damage total. Summoning forth this aura is a full-round action, and lasts a number of rounds equal to (Concentration ÷ 3), rounded down. For example, Tom, a Lvl 7 Warlock/Lvl 4 Eldritch Shaper, can deal 5d6 damage with his eldritch blast. Thus, when using Dark Armor, he gains a temporary +5 to his Armor Class. Eldritch Bow – At 4th level, the Shaper can summon forth a ranged weapon out of eldritch energy. It is similar to the eldritch blade ability, but it can summon forth any type of bow or crossbow. This weapon suffer the same rules and limitations as the blades, but the Shaper can only summon one. The bow/crossbow deals damage equal to the Shaper’s eldritch blast. Due to the more complicated mechanics that the bows and crossbows possess, attacking with the eldritch bow suffers a -1 penalty. Furthermore, a Shaper can launch actual arrows or bolts (whichever is appropriate) from these weapons, albeit at an additional penalty; -1 for arrows, -2 for crossbows. Eldritch Bomb –At 5th level, the Shaper can create an inert ball of eldritch energy that can explode either when struck or at the Shaper’s command (standard action). These spheres are the size of a human skull, and the manifestation process takes 1 minute. At 9th level, the eldritch bomb can explode under specific conditions, as if under a contingency spell. The Shaper can only create a maximum of 2 eldritch bombs, and if he creates any new bombs, the others will simply dissipate into nothingness. The bombs last for 24 hours, afterwards they dissipate harmlessly. When the orbs These bombs deal damage equal to the damage of the Shaper’s eldritch blast. They explode in a 10 foot spherical radius (including up and down). When the Shaper decides to ignite these bombs, or when he specifies the contingency, they can explode in the standard 10 foot area, or deal half the amount of damage (round down) in a 20 foot area, or a third of the damage (round down) in a 30 foot area. Dark Hands – The shaper is capable of directly affecting and altering the world around him with his energies. As a full-round action, he can use telekenesis as a 3rd level spell, and as if you were a 3rd level sorcerer. Due to the difficulty in which the eldritch energy is to control, the DC Will save for using the Eldritch Manifestation is increased by 2. Shaper of Energy – Now at the pinnacle of his eldritch abilities, the Shaper is able to temporarily create items out of pure energy, albeit at a cost. Shaper of Energy operates as the major creation spell, although the Shaper does not need the material components necessary for the spell. The items created by this ability are copies of the original item, and are composed entirely of eldritch energy. They lack most of the properties that the original items have (wood wouldn’t burn, metal objects couldn’t be magnetized, etc), but the casting time for these items would still stay the same because of the difficulty of representing more complicated materials. The items created last for 24 hours before dissipating completely. The Shaper can only create a number of items per day equal to his total ranks in Concentration. The difficulty in creating such items is immense for the Shaper; trying to create such items costs the Shaper some of his own power. When creating an item, the Shaper needs to sacrifice 20 experience points. Eldritch Cosmetics : Beginning at 1st level, the Eldritch Shaper gains more control over his Warlock abilities, allowing him to change the color and shape of his eldritch blasts, or any of the eldritch manifestation abilities gained by this prestige class. As a free action, the character may change the color or the shape of any of his abilities that use eldritch forces in a visible way. It is even possible to make an eldritch blast invisible (colorless, almost like clear water) to hide the caster’s ‘sniping position.’ However, even when invisible, his eldritch energies can still be spotted with a Spot DC of 30. Dark Concentration : Can take a 10 on Concentration checks even if unthreatened or distracted. Dark Precision: Due in part to the increased control of his powers, the new familiarity in which he wields them, and the combat in which he has participated, the Shaper can more effectively use his ranged eldritch powers. When using any of his eldritch powers that use range (eldritch blast and eldritch bow), the Shaper automatically gains the Precise Shot feat (but not Point Blank Shot).
