Actually 2.

My wizard has taken 2 levels in archmage.., the 1st High Arcana was master of elements. The 2nd was spell power. Now spell power is the problem.

1st, In my etools version, spell power says it adds to spell based DC's (as well as damage dice, etc). The DM said it doesn't. Makes sense once I thought about it.

Also in etool, (which I use extensively to make and keep track of my character, and realize it has errors) spell power is a high arcana you can take multiple times, although thr DMs guide does not specifically state that you can take it multiple times.

Has anybody else faced this w/ Arch mage? How would you rule regardless? Any errata regarding this question.

Its fairly important as my group will probably level up soon, and I would love to get another level of spell power.

What do you trust, a third-party product, or the official book? ;)

I think it is simply a product of sloppy editing. Heirophant allows you to take spell power multiple times since its 3.0 incarnation had such a provision, and because it had only 1 version of spell power. The 3.0 archmage had different types of spell power with varying benefits. Thus, you could not select the same archmage spell power more than once back then. You had to select another spell power variant to get more benefit.

When they revised spell power in 3.5, I think they just forgot to add in the reminder text. Though this does mean that you are technically prevented from taking it more than once, though I personally see nothing wrong with allowing it.:)

I hadn't noticed that before either, clearly that was an oversight on their part.
I also haven't come across anyone else who says that you couldn't take it twice.
There is some evidence that supports that it was most likely an oversight too.

Looking more closely at the other high arcanas I noticed this:
If spell-like ability is selected more than one time as a high arcana choice, this ability can apply to the same spell chosen the first time (increasing the number of times per day it can be used) or to a different spell.

Notice how it doesn't come right out and say "you can take this multiple times"?

The intention was, IMO, that they are all selectable multiple times, even the masteries.
(though that would give no additional benefit.)

Literalist interpretations are what lead to nonsense like Arcane Thesis abuse. Sometimes you have to look for the intent and not simply the spelling. Hope that helps. :)

Thanks for the answers. I'll investigate heirophant and see if I can draw any conclusions.

Has there been any errata on the topic?
