What Prestige Class is best for an Archivist?

I'm not particularly interested in Turning Undead.

Gaining Domains would be ok but not necessarily a must. Apart from that my only real must have ability is NOT losing any caster levels.

What would you recommend?

Geometer from Complete Arcane for 2 or 4 levels.

Second level allows you to make all spells take up the equivilent of one page... then scribe some spells on yourself using the tatoo spellbook rules in the back of Complete Arcane... It's not powerful... but it's a bit of cool. There's just something about having a ninth level spell on the back of your hand.

Archivist can't cast 3rd level Arcane spells!

Good catch on that.

My advice is Loremaster. Its not terribly big, but it'll be handy, and is one of those PrCs that really doesn't hurt to have. The full spell progression is well worth it.

Divine disciple from PGTF is not bad(but you must worship a deity), since it grants a bonus domain, and more importantly, adds the domain's spells to your spell list. Choose spell domain or something. You can't go wrong with goodies like anyspell/greater and limited wish. Plus, you become an outsider at 5th lv, which opens up some interesting polymorph options.

Archivists are set up on the premise of a spellbook and scribed spells. Complete Arcane came out before Heroes of Horror. If your DM won't allow some sort of adaptation much like Completed Divine's Divine Oracle... then I would say he's... uptight.

But yes, it would have to be a homebrew adaptation. *sigh*

I've chosen Divine Disciple so I'm Archivist 8/ DD 2. There isn't too much to choose between straight Archivist and DD but I like the idea of gaining a Domain and becoming an Outsider (an eating and sleeping one!)

You may want to get three more levels in Archivist - Dread Secret is quite useful. (In a different post, the OP had already specified that the archivist in question was an Archivist 8/Divine Disciple 2.)
