Death1942 02-24-08, 12:32 AM	my DM has agreed (after a lengthy argument) to allow me to play an assassin or avenger. originally i wanted to be an assassin but my motives (though evil) were for the good of the group. now i ask am i better off playing an assassin or an avenger? i would kill if it meant that was plenty to be gained from it (like the above) but would refrain from killing just for the hell of it. i would not hesitate to remove a witness to a bungled robbery or remove an obstacle in the parties way (like a nosy sheriff). another thing i need to consider is we are planning to head into the Temple of Elemental Evil (and so i would not dare become evil until we are done ruling out the assassin for a while). i considered becoming a black flame zealot but my god is Olidammarra and i figure its quite hard to find a temple (or even a cause) to follow. any comments are welcome
Jaxgaret 02-24-08, 04:49 AM	If your character worships Olidammara then the Avenger wouldn't make much sense, as it requires you to be non-chaotic.

I don't know about the ToEE and what it means for evil characters, but what you're describing looks perfectly fine for an evil-aligned character - they are evil, but not idiotic. IE was one of my least favourite alignments anyway - just after CM (Chaotic Moronic).
dman11235 02-24-08, 09:46 AM	You could just recognize that the Assassin and Avenger are the same class. What I do is throw out the alignment restriction on the Assassin, and the kill someone prereq. You'll also want to note what the very first paragraph in the article says, and look at the date of posting. As for BFZ, it's not going to be all that easy a time being non-chaotic and worshiping Olidamara, but clerics can be a step off, why can't non-clerics?
The_Shaman 02-24-08, 02:41 PM	BFZ alignments shouldn't be a big problem. IIRC the deity it was based on doesn't have a problem with CN worshippers... OTOH, I don't really see it fitting Olidammara without some major reflavoring.
Death1942 02-24-08, 04:04 PM	Chaotic Neutral would be an easy alignment for a BFZ (i am already neutral). i don't want to turn evil as the temple has a habit of absorbing evil characters. My DM said the avenger was fine (the 4th means nothing down here) but i am not really sure how i could meet the pre requisites. also i imagine it would be harder to play for me with my slightly chaotic leaning :D
