Omnirahk, half-Rahkshi 01-12-08, 09:46 PM	I guess I should see a regular Heir of Siberys in use before asking this, but I got an idea for an intriguing character that requires that I bend the rules a little with Heir of Siberys. Specifically, using it to gain a SLA that isn't a Siberys mark ability of any Dragonmarked house. Ok, simple. So it's an "Heir of Khyber" PrC essentially, right? Nope. Because I still plan on being a member of House Lyrandar with a dragonmark ability appropriate for the Mark of Storms. It's just not Storm of Vengeance. My idea is to RP through all the debate and scandal of this, as people wonder if I bear an aberrant mark, or if the Mark of Storms is evolving. And if it is evolving, is this a new power for the Mark of Storms, or is it splitting into two true dragonmarks? To play up this possibility in the debate, I want my Siberys mark to very closely resemble the true Siberys Mark of Storms. It's almost an exact copy. Almost. Only an occasional line is different here or there. I think it would be a very rewarding RP experience. But here's the question: I plan on exchanging the normal Storm of Vengeance ability (druid 9) for Storm of Elemental Fury (druid 8, CDiv). I love Storm of Elemental Fury more by far. Thing is, I've never gotten to levels to see either in play. So here's my question: is this a fair trade? At first, it seems like it should be an obvious no, since I'm getting a lower level spell in return. Yet looking at the other Siberys dragonmarks, both 8th and 9th level spells are common. Some are 7th or even 6th! Is this a fair trade? And since I'm here discussing the Heir of Siberys PrC, I'd like to ask the following: is anyone else thrown off by the fact that you don't gain a Siberys mark until second level? So you can call yourself an heir of siberys before you show any signs? I know they need to discourage dipping, but still. Also, is there any point sticking to it for third level, when you've already got your Siberys mark?
Wih 01-13-08, 09:31 PM	Third level will give you another bonus feat for non-casters, or a caster level for casters. 1st level gives you bonus action points. It's a very, very good 3 level investment.
Omnirahk, half-Rahkshi 01-14-08, 09:57 AM	I suppose for casters level 3 is a good investment just because it costs nothing more (since you increase caster level) yet you get better HD (d6) and better saves (all good). I'm just struck by how only one level really contributes to the actual Siberys mark abilities. I presume I'm right that it's balanced to get Storm of Elemental Fury over Storm of Vengeance?
The_One_Who_Walks 01-16-08, 09:36 PM	I don't have my books in front of me, but I remember correctly Storm of Elemental Fury is a pretty powerful 8th level spell, so I don't think swapping it for Storm of Vengeance is mechanically any kind of sacrifice, and I think it retains the flavor nicely. It sounds balanced, and what's more, like a good plot hook (or set there of), and the roots of some very good RP. So, I'd say, go for it :D

Too bad I can't qualify for both Heir of Siberys and Windwright captain. It seems like a good 5th character - because I've never been able to feel satisfied about the party role of a devoted dragonmarked character (especially heir of siberys). I guess I'll just go bard or rogue. Or maybe I'll finally have a chance for a spellthief . . .
