Bwahaha... I would have suggested Dragon Disciple, since it's quite okay for hexblades, but I'm sure you can find something a lot nicer like that. Why'd you need ordinary toughness, btw? It gives 3 HP, and you have 500+
Phase

04-22-07, 05:08 PM
Did you take improved toughness every time you had a feat? otherwise, 540hp with only a 17 con is just about impossible... also max hd every level?

as for PrCs... if you want added spellcasting, go with Ur-Priest, or whatever it is in the DMG that adds +1CL every level... but since epic levels dont advance BAB id go with spellcasting of some sort or even monk

Blackguard is nice if you're really, really into making saves.

You can't go wrong with Abjurant Champion and the Karmic line of spells, both from Complete Mage. The Dragon Disciple suggestion is also very good.

Im hoping to become some kin of uber tank. ou see, im stuck with a
1. monk, actualy knows what hes doing
2. mummy - a undead deaths chosen to
3. mourg(sp?) - pure undead, quite tough, almost as much hp as me
4. ranger + 5. wizard. examle of there plan

ill bang down the door, and ill run in and cast fireball ( ranger kicks door, wizard runs and fireballs. yeah)

yeah, im working on that.

eiather a tank with a bit of magic, or a impossibly strong mage or psion. im wearing melenial(sp) chanmail, with true believer , so im good on armor, ive also got *improved* hexbands ( +5 to dc instead of +1)

also, i like the idea of being untouchable, like mabey a duelist or an invisible blade. basicly, give me the munchkinyisty combo you can think of ( munchkinyisty - beyond a 320 ft flying kick or doing 340 dmg in 1 round)

with any luck, the rest of my team wont suck. with faith, hope, luck, and a few hundred miracles.

PS: im currently trying to ge the eye and hand of vecna, im hoping my will save will make sure i dont go E-VIL ( superpronounce the E) then, im gonna get a guy to make my a pylachery. ps lich FTW.

PPS: the DM figured the hp, not me. im not complaning
PPPS: can i get a kobold familiar? i mean, a kobold with 270 hp...
PPPPS: hmmmm...i like the dragon deciple thing, but can i get it? dont i have to be sorcerer/bard to get it?

Well, if you really want to be good, the first thing to keep in mind is to avoid playing a Hexblade in the first place. And no, you can't get a kobold familiar. And to become a Dragon Disciple, you just need to be able to cast 1st-level arcane spells (which the Hexblade can do as early as level 4).

You also have to be able to speak draconic... And have some ranks in knowledge (arcana).

Hexblades don't have a problem with becoming Dragon Disciples around level 5 (for the skill requirements). Your casting and cursing might suffer a little, but you already have that. As for familiars, I'm partial to the version of improved familiar that accepts a Hippogriph. It's not as easy to hide as the other familiars, but having a flying mount that you can share spells with is not bad at all imo. 100 ft flight speed at average maneuverability should be pretty solid imo, especially considering that it will be much tougher and more agile than the average hippogriph.

feel free to tell me witch book thats in.
allthough, a kobold familiar would be powerful, with my hp level.
540/2 = 270 hp kobold.
just think about that
The_Shaman

04-23-07, 07:00 PM
I think it was either the Forgotten Realms CS or Complete warrior. To be honest, quite a few books have expended the list of creatures available with Improved Familiar.

As for kobolds, well, the tough part is that they're a separate, sentient race, and as such don't make iconic familiars. You can take one as a cohort, though.
darksteel_ninja

04-24-07, 06:39 PM
2 things.
1. so theres no way i can get a 270 hp kobold as a familar?
2. what about classes that focus on front line fighting? any of those, besides fighter.
The_Shaman

04-24-07, 07:05 PM
1: Not to the best of my knowledge. You can, I guess, have a 270+HP kobold as a cohort, but I haven't heard of kobold familiars. It could be a houserule, but somehow it doesn't feel right. Mind you, I never caught the kobold bug anyway.
2: Classes or PrCs? Practically any class with full BAB or medium BAB and extras (i.e. cleric, psychic warrior etc) can be useful, especially if it doesn't require you to wield light armor..

Epic levels don't advance BAB, I think. The Dragon Disciple would be good, or Green Star Adapt (or whatever it was) from CArc...pretty much anything that's designed as a support/warrior class.

i would suggest dragondisciple also, the strength and ac is nice boost. if you not good, which by all the undead in the party i dont think you are. hexblade 16, blackguard 4, dragondisiple with an improved familiar/special mount howler to stack a ton of negs on opponents

If you have the Complete warrior book (which i'm sure you do since your using the hexblade) I would look at the Kensai. Basically it's a prestige class that allows you to imbue weapons with your own power, giving them enhancement bonuses up to your kensai level. (there are 10 levels in kensai, so you could have a +5 weapon with up to +5 in other enhancements, which is nice.) normal bab progression, but then again that doesn't matter in an epic campaign. good will saves, poor saves for reflex and fortitude. Besides that, the Kensai also gets a couple of very nice abilities as well. (get a +8 strength bonus if you make a concentration check, improved skill checks, the ability to imbue your power to another character, etc. etc.) The only problem with this though is that you must be lawful evil or lawful neutral. (hexblades can be any nongood, kensai's must be lawful.)

I am also in favour of the dragon disciple though. The stat bonuses gained from the disciple are very nice. You gain spellcasting levels and a bunch of nice immunities. (Plus you can fly!)

You cannot have a kobold or any other playable race as a familiar or animal companion. Black Guard is nice for Mettle (will/fort version of evasion) If you want to be rediculous, go Warblade from the Book of Nine Swords d12 HD fighter BAB and moves so rediculous that at 10th level, I and my friend were able to get three turns each in the first round before anyone else had one. (White Raven Tactics baby!)

OH!OH!
or the (sadly late)

Demosc Diablo

Bard lvl 4
Fighter lvl 1
Fourtans friend lvl 2
FANG OF LOLTH LVL 10! /\( ;::; )/\

hehehe
i use catapult to shoot the portable hole into the bag of holding being held by the king
hehehe...good times

but seriously, mabey Fang of lolth for the extra move speed, climb bonus ( BTW< whats the max climb bonus you get for that? i was well on my way to making a dc 100 check to climb air) , extra legs, nat armor , extra egs, yadda yadda yadda
SpoonyBard

04-25-07, 04:56 PM
Go into Swordsage. After Hexblade 20, BAB stops increasing as per epic rules, and you'll be able to pick up 9th level manuevers in a few levels. Also, you'll gain Evasion to compliment Mettle and the ability to make Concentration checks instead of Saves for when people drop Divine spells on your ass.

There's a PrC in my sig called the Unseen Curse for Rogue/Hexblade multiclasses. I think it really improves on the hexblade if you're using the RAW one, and not an improved version from somewhere else. And if you are, the capstone ability I think is very cool for a sneaky curse-spewer.

04-28-07, 04:19 PM
Well, i thought about it, ive got 2 choices.

1. Blackguard, because our party has 0 healing.

OR

2. Dragon deciple, because they kick ...butts
calprinicus

04-28-07, 04:26 PM
personally I would go blackguard.
Drakken_Wolff

3 Things

1. so far its
1- Black guard
1- Dragon deciple
0- Drunken master ( im just trowing this out)

2. Drakken_Wolff , how d oi do the hide/ show thingy? it would shorten my sig

3. acould someone tel me waht the book of erotic fantasys is? And whats this mature board everyones talking about?
The_Shaman

04-30-07, 04:28 PM
The mature board is a board in the D&D styles section, which requires that you're over 18 years of age to see it. The Book of Erotic Fantasy is an oft-maligned 3.0 supplement by Valar Project. It has some good points, imo mostly about D&D morality and possible sexual mores (your mileage may vary, as they say), but by and large is not considered one of the best 3rd party supplements.

So yeah, I'm for DD. It's not a bad template for epic classes, although you could just get the template in 3 levels and call it a day.

You know, I really hate it when people pimp their homemade houserule PrCs and such on these boards. But it happens that I made a while ago a prestige class that allows goblins and kobolds to serve as a wizard's familiar (http://mrteapot.livejournal.com/10621.html).

Abjurant Champion FTW.

Consider . . .

Hexblade20 = caster level 10

Hexblade 15/Abjurant Champion5 = caster level 20

nuff said.
darksteel_ninja

05-07-07, 09:41 PM
Anh, im good on the caster level thing. I just needed to be able to cast polymorph, Dimension Door , Enervation, phantasmal speed, yadda yadda yadda. (im hoping to convince the wizzard to take permanacy, and then take symbol of insanity, and scribe it on a bouncy ball. Or animate object a hoard of +1 shurikens to put in a bag of holding type 4. (just punch the bottom so they all fly out at once, doing tons of damage, i think that the sheer amount would even count as flanking for sneak attacks and stuff

Anyway, im thinking about dragon deciple, and i just need one thing

ok, flyby attack, improved flyby attack, combat reflexes, what am i missing to just be able to use a spiked chain or other reach weapon to just attack every guy i fly near? Is there such a feat?

PS: if i go DD, what type of dragon should i be?
darksteel_ninja

05-09-07, 09:17 PM
oh, and what familiiar should i get

Best PrC for a Hexblade is Sublime Chord:

Hex3/Bard7/SC10

Yes, I did just disrespect the Hexblade as being nothing more than a 3-level dip.

05-10-07, 06:53 PM
Why does everyone hate hexblades >_>
epifreak

05-11-07, 04:53 PM
They've suffered from D&D's mighty power creep. At the time the completes were released, hexblade was on par with what was coming out at the time. Sometime after that *cough Tome of Battle cough* Wizards decided that martial characters shouldn't be weaker in all respects than casters. As a result, the hexblade is a really wonderfully flavored class. It just doesn't quite have the punch to back itself up anymore.
darksteel_ninja

05-12-07, 12:43 AM
So basicly there like having a 2nd eddition monster fight a guy using wail of the banshee (HINT: they dont have saves)

But then why hate them? they have polymorph , witch is the only way ive keept the mage alive ( he rushed in and casted fireball...agenst a room of fire elementals. I polymorphed him into a baby red dragon )

But if you have him go toe to toe with a fighter, you basicly have the following

Fighter goes first
Fighter attack
Hex blade takes dammage

Hex blade GOes second
Hexblade casts balefoe polymorph
fighter is a lizzard
Hexblades familiar eats fighter.

yeah. agenst a spell caster

Hexblade takes dammage/ makes save
hexblade runs up and graples.
hexblade familiar takes advantage of helpless spellcaster
hexblade wins.

see?

anyway, the dm ruled that flyby attacl/ improved with combat reflexes would allow me to fly through the battlefield and attack everything. Also, the dm gave my weapon, do an extra 2d6 dmg if i hit someone from 20 ft away. They are then thrown twards me. and if im flying like this

\
..\
....\
......\
o - (20 ft) - o
/\ /\

theyll go flying twards me, getting so many attacks of oppertunity its not even funny. its :censored: hilarious.

anyway, so now, 2 things remain

1. what familiar. Is it possible to get a psydonatural ( the kind with all the eyes. theres a pic of a hippogriph in eiather compleate mage or arcane. He had lots of extra eyes, gaping holes, stuff like that. Basicly he was realitys idea of a pratical joke.
2. What kind of dragon deciple. there are lots
Mr_Teapot

You could go Alienist to make your familiar Pseudonatural, but I don't think it's worthwhile for a Hexblade. It's a castery PrC, so you could qualify but you'd lose HD and BAB and get weak spells in return.

05-14-07, 01:51 PM
Ok from what I've experienced from playing a Hexblade, I found turning them into a mage slayer is sooooo tasty. I had my hexblade take a couple levels of rogue for evasion or just pick up the ring of evasion and then jump into the prestige class OCCULT SLAYER!!!

With the powerful mettle ability, evasion if you get ring or from a class, and the boost to saves from Hexblade AND Occult Slayer, plus the ability to turn spells and immunity to mind affecting after only 5 levels of the prestige class, you still get to enjoy hexblade and only take a 5 level hit.

So I say Occult Slayer is one of the greatest AND funnest to work with Hexblade. Plus it gives you a great niche inside the group as the mage/cleric slayer. (get magebane on your weapon to make matters worse :D )

KENSAI HANDS DOWN...

One of the coolest PrC i can think of, or blackguard...
