| Kardanok03-30-07, 11:30 AM | My DM recently purchased the Forgotten Realms campaign setting, so we're starting up a new campaign taking place in it. I'm playing a Tiefling Knight and we started off with three levels, though, I'm level 2 due to Tifeling's level ajdjustment. Basically, I'm wondering if there are any particular prestige classes people would suggest taking on in the next few levels. Thanks, Kardanok |
| garou8503-30-07, 12:14 PM | that totally depends on how you play. Good, Evil, Honorable, Greedy. There are classes for each. Not to mention what you wanna rock at. I.E. fighting, talkin, torture, leading, riding.... |
| Kardanok03-30-07, 03:22 PM | I'm playing my character extremely good and honorable. He is lawful good. So no black guard or the like :P |
| The_Shaman03-30-07, 04:17 PM | Cavalier is good if you want to spend more time on horseback (although the SoF Master Samurai can also work if you want a different flavor), and there are a few more mounted classes you might want to check for alternative mounts (i.e. flying, heavier etc). If you're on foot, there are quite a few options. I liked the Purple Dragon Knight (PGtF), but I haven't tried it myself... The Sacred Templar and/or Divine Champion are nice if your character is more religious and has a good wisdom or charisma, too. IMO it depends on what you want your character to be able to do. Is s/he a human, or another race btw? Also, what region is she from? Tiefling knights can't be especially common. |
| Kardanok03-30-07, 07:13 PM | Thanks for all the reccommendations, I'll be sure to take a look at them. My character is from the Unther (sp?) region. |
| The_Shaman03-30-07, 08:38 PM | OK, ditch the MSamurai - it's not suitable for the realms and it requires a heck of a lot of feats. Unther was pseudo-Mesopotamian, right? Hmm... |
| Jindy04-03-07, 05:31 PM | I've started a human knight/marshal, also going the noble/honorable route (only lawful good character in the party... we'll see how long the lawful evil warlock lasts)... anyway, I was looking at the Knight Protector (complete warrior, I think) as a possible prestige class... although I may just stick with knight. |
| Barloch04-03-07, 05:52 PM | The knight is honestly good all 20 levels, no real need to take a prestige. |
| SpoonyBard04-05-07, 09:20 PM | The knight is honestly good all 20 levels, no real need to take a prestige. I'd agree here wholeheartedly. If you must take a prestige class, take Cavalier, but be sure to take the Leadership feat so you can get a mount that doesn't suck. (I suggest a pegasus) |
| Barloch04-05-07, 11:58 PM | I'd only suggest prestige dipping, or a 5 level prc at most. The leader prestige class from heros of battle might be good for it (forget the prcs name), but really I don't see any need for you to prestige as a knight. |
| DSCrankshaw04-21-07, 03:42 AM | I'm planning on taking Dwarven Defender for my Dwarf knight. It won't work for any character not lucky enough to be born a dwarf ;) , but the class features look like they work together pretty well. Test of Mettle to draw them to you: Defensive stance to survive the onslaught. To say nothing of the dodge bonus, the damage reduction, etc. The main problem, as I see it, is that the the Test of Mettle DC won't increase with level, and I'm going to need alternative ways to increase it (Ability Focus, if the DM allows). I'd give a lot for a feat similar to the Complete Adventurer's Ascetic and Devoted feats, which would let me add Defender to Knight levels for the purpose of calculating the save DCs and maybe uses as well. Sure, it's powergaming, but it makes more thematic sense than Devoted Performer feat. Of course, I took kind of the opposite approach... I was planning on Defender, and wondering what class would best get me there. Knight was perfect, partly for its features, but mostly because it fit my character so well (he was a 2nd level fighter before the rebuild). One quick rules question, though: Can damage reduction be applied to the Shield Ally ability? |

The leader prestige class from heros of battle might be good for it (forget the prcs name), but really I don't see any need for you to prestige as a knight. Legendary Leader, and I agree. I'm working on a rogue/fighter build to get me there. I hate taking Iron Will, but that's really the only issue in terms of prereq's, and it works very well with the knight's ethos. |
| IntOblivion05-16-07, 04:41 PM | If your DM's not against combinating different campaign settings' PrC:s, you could allways go for the Knights of Solamnia, and just simply adapt them to the campaign ;) |
| Xavorin05-16-07, 06:31 PM | Knight Protecter has always been on my list for PrC for martial characters. |
| Krusk05-16-07, 06:43 PM | i would suggets you stay with knight at lease until you get the feature that lets you move at full speed in heavy armor around level 9. Honestly though, why not just do knight 20, or knight 19 fighter 1? Level 19 knight is fun, but you wont hit that until epic sadly. |
