I submitted this class several months ago, however I've taken some time now to make a few updates including some flavor text. Thank you for taking the time to critique my class.

Black Frost Champion

black frost - 1. A dry freeze with respect to its effects upon vegetation, that is, the internal freezing of vegetation unaccompanied by the protective formation of hoarfrost. A black frost is always a killing frost, and its name derives from the resulting blackened appearance of affected vegetation.

“Some pilgrims travel to the deep north in search of answers. Most do not return. The few who do, return weak and half-mad, bringing tales of death, ice, and eternal night. Every few generations, one returns strong, and he brings the North with him.”
- Dartagna Bel'turleaf, “Introduction to the Ice Wars”

The young girl's thoughts of the raid on her village, the slaughter of her family, and her own brutal capture were interrupted by the dark figure suddenly striding toward her. Black armor gleamed as it passed through patches of moonlight, yet no glow pierced the inner gloom of its visored helm. Long strides brought it closer, and she drew away, clutching closer the bloody, torn rags, hanging from her shoulders in a mockery of modesty, in a futile attempt to keep out the sudden and unexpected cold. She was unable to retreat far, the links of steel keeping her from fleeing first this evil prison and now the strange apparition descending upon her.

She covered her face in terror, her tears turning to ice before shattering on the stone floor. The figure reached down. Placing a gauntleted finger beneath her chin, he raised her face to look into his. At first, the bitter cold touch burned through the girl, but when she opened her mouth to scream in pain and fear, the sound gurgled and died in her throat as the apparition's eyes caught her own.

She did not see her doom in the striking blue of those two convex winter skies. The girl saw, as she would describe in later years, the inevitability of winter. She saw primal creatures huddling together to keep away the cold dark before the advent of fire. She saw the final quenching of the Sun, and the subsequent blanket of ice marking the end of existence.

Without a word, the champion of ice swung down its other hand, fist striking the chains that bound her. The links shattered like so much glass. Then, releasing her from its gaze, the figure continued its march down the hall, disappearing into the castle beyond.

The young girl sat bewildered, slowly massaging the numbness left in her chin after the figure's touch. Alarmed shouts erupted from the keep behind her, and she quickly fled her dark prison, leaving the broken chain, her shattered tears, and the death-wails of her captors behind her.

Class Skills:
The Black Frost Champion's class skills are Concentration (Con), Craft (Int), Handle Animal (Cha), Intimidate (Cha), Knowledge (religion) (Int), Profession (Wis), Ride (Dex), and Sense Motive (Wis).
Skill Points at Each Level: 2 + Int modifier.

Class Features:
Weapon and Armor Proficiency: Black Frost Champion's gain no proficiency with any weapons or armor.

Paladin Abilities: A Black Frost Champion's levels stack with paladin of tyranny levels for progressing Deadly Touch (Lay on Hands) and Special Mount abilities.

Aura of Cold: As a swift action, a Black Frost Champion can emit an Aura of Cold in a 10ft radius. The temperature within the aura's area of effect is 10 degrees cooler than the surrounding environment. While the aura is active, the Black Frost Champion gains a +2 bonus to Intimidate checks and a -2 penalty to Diplomacy checks to effect creatures within 10ft.

Endure Elements: A Black Frost Champion possesses the ability to exist in cold environments as if under the constant effect of an endure elements spell.

Rebuke Cold: A Black Frost Champion can turn or destroy fire creatures as a good cleric turns undead and rebuke or command cold creatures as an evil cleric rebukes undead. The Black Frost Champion's effective cleric level is his class level + his existing effective cleric level.

Resistance to cold: A Black Frost Champion who is at least 2nd level, gains resistance to cold 5. This increases to resistance to cold 10 at 5th level.

Powerful Grip: As the Disciple of Thrym class feature, Frostburn, page 57. Applies to two-handed weapons only. At 2nd level, the Black Frost Champion gains a damage bonus equal to half his Strength bonus when he attacks with a two-handed weapon. This means he adds 2 times his Strength bonus on his damage rolls instead of 1-1/2 times his Strength bonus when wielding the weapon in two hands.

Frozen Skin: At 3rd level, the Black Frost Champion's skin becomes as hard (and cold) as frozen flesh, while retaining its flexibility. His skin appears to be coated with a fine layer of frost, and flecks of snow seem to float from his flesh at times. He gains a +2 natural armor bonus to his Armor Class, which increases to +4 at level 6.

Black Frost Smite: Once per day, a Black Frost Champion of 4th level or higher may make a single melee attack against any creature with a +4 attack bonus and a cold damage bonus equal to his Black Frost Champion level (if he hits). The Black Frost Champion must declare the smite before making the attack. Starting at 9th level, a Black Frost Champion can Black Frost Smite twice per day.
If a Black Frost Champion has a smite good attack from paladin of tyranny levels, the number of uses stack. He also can choose to use either his Black Frost Smite or smite good ability each time he attempts to smite a creature. The attack bonus does not increase, but the damage bonus is based on the character's combined level (Black Frost Champion levels plus paladin levels).

Frostbite Weapon (Sp): As the Disciple of Thrym “Frost Greataxe” class feature, Frostburn, page 57. Applies to two-handed weapons only. At 5th level, as a move action, a Black Frost Champion can cause a two-handed weapon he wields to become sheathed in a layer of intense cold, granting the weapon the frost special ability (+1d6 points of cold damage on a successful strike). If he lets go of the weapon, the frost dissipates immediately; otherwise, it lasts for a number of round equal to his class level.

Cold Snap: At 7th level, a Black Frost Champion gains the ability to intensify his aura of cold. A number of times per day equal to 1 + his Charisma modifier, a Black Frost Champion can reduce the temperature within 20ft up to 10 degrees cooler per Black Frost Champion level (maximum -100 degrees at 10th level). This Cold Snap lasts for 10 minutes per Black Frost Champion level and all Fortitude saves to negate damage from intense cold happen immediately and then again at the time increments defined in the Dungeon Master's Guide.

Cold Subtype (Ex): At 7th level, a Black Frost Champion gains the cold subtype. He gains immunity to cold, but also has vulnerability to fire, which means he takes half again as much (+50%) damage as normal from fire, regardless of whether or not a saving throw is allowed, or if the save is a success or a failure.

Hoarfrost Sunder (Sp): A Black Frost Champion of 7th level or higher can use a move action to sheathe his weapon in a white layer of frost. If the weapon is used in a sunder attempt within one round, the Black Frost Champion gains a bonus to damage an inanimate object equal to his Black Frost Champion level. After one round, the frost melts and the weapon is as normal. This ability may be used a number of times a day equal to 2 + the Black Frost Champion's Charisma modifier.

Blizzard-Bite Weapon (Sp): As the Disciple of Thrym “Icy Greataxe” class feature, Frostburn, page 57. Applies to two-handed weapons only. At 8th level, as a move action, the Black Frost Champion can cause a two-handed weapon to become sheathed in a layer of intense cold, granting the weapon the icy burst special ability (+1d6 points of cold damage on a successful strike, plus an extra 2d10 points of cold damage on a successful critical). If he lets go of the weapon, the frost dissipates immediately, otherwise it lasts for a number of rounds equal to his class level.

Black Frost Apotheosis (Su): As the Winterhaunt of Iborighu class feature, Frostburn, page 74.At 10th level, the Black Frost Champion undergoes a powerful and unholy transformation as his flesh and bones become consumed by frozen wrath, only to be replaced by snowy flesh and icy bones. The Black Frost Champion has become a powerful supernatural servant of Winter.
Once this apotheosis takes place, the Black Frost Champion's type changes to elemental, and he gains the evil subtype. As a being composed of living, profane ice and snow, he is immune to poison, sleep effects, paralysis, and stunning. He is also not subject to extra damage from critical hits or flanking. The Black Frost Champion cannot be raised, reincarnated, or resurrected (though a limited wish, wish, miracle, or true resurrection spell can restore life). The Black Frost Champion also gains darkvision out to 60 feet.
The Black Frost Champion's natural weapons, as well as any weapons he wields, are treated as evil-aligned for the purpose of overcoming damage reduction.

A Note on Multiclassing: A paladin who takes levels in Black Frost Champion may continue to progress his career as a paladin.

The mechanics all look pretty good. From the looks of it, some of the abilities in the box are either missing or re-named

I like the flavor of this class tho. It reminds me of Arthas from warcraft 3.

Oh, my, that's embarrassing. Looks like I'd copied over a slightly older version of the class table. I went ahead and updated the chart to reflect the most current version of the class.

I'm glad you enjoy the flavor. You're actually the 2nd person who has seen a similarity between the Black Frost Champion and Arthas. That wasn't intentional, but it is still very interesting.

Remember though, Arthas became a death knight and a lich. Black Frost Champion becomes an elemental.

Ok, it seems really good now. Lol dont sweat the error, happens to me too.
Frostburn is one of my favorite books so i really like this class.

I think the similarity is from Paladin to cold-based evil guy.

Rebuke Cold: A Black Frost Champion may use rebuke undead attempts to rebuke, command, or bolster creatures with the cold subtype. A Black Frost Champion adds his Black Frost Champion levels with his cleric or paladin of tyranny levels for all purposes related to rebuking undead and creatures with the cold subtype.

This is awkwardly phrased. Try:

Rebuke Cold: A Black Frost Champion can turn or destroy fire creatures as a good cleric turns undead and rebuke or command cold creatures as an evil cleric rebukes undead. Each use of this ability uses up one of your turn uses per day of his turn ability. The Black Frost Champion's effective cleric level is his class level + his existing effective cleric level.

Remember, you never only affect one kind of creature - there's always opposites. And if it only stacks with cleric and paladin of tyranny, then that removes any possibility for other sources for turning, such as other prestige classes. ;) Try to word things as generically as possible.

Powerful Grip: As the Disciple of Thrym class feature, Frostburn, page 57. Applies to two-handed weapons only.

Frozen Skin: Similar to the Winterhaunt of Iborighu class feature, Frostburn, page 73. Cloak of Winter's Chill is not applicable.

Frost Weapon: As the Disciple of Thrym “Frost Greataxe” class feature, Frostburn, page 57. Applies to two-handed weapons only.

Icy Weapon: As the Disciple of Thrym “Icy Greataxe” class feature, Frostburn, page 57. Applies to two-handed weapons only.

Wintry Apotheosis: As the Winterhaunt of Iborighu class feature, Frostburn, page 74.

Okaay. Let me crack open Frostburn... (it's hard to critique something when you have to go look it up ;) ) These abilities are pretty good, yes. You can write them out, though, as you're writing it for something for you :P. It helps when referencing the class that you don't have to cross reference. And it helps those who haven't got Frostburn to critique your class.

Does this override Smite Good? Is it just a general Smite on the Rocks now? o_O

Thank you for your pointers regarding Rebuke Cold. I will make the changes as you suggest.

Regarding the references from Frostburn... I was under the impression that I could not legally post the text for those class features. I understand that it makes it more difficult to critique the class (and I appreciate you taking the time to look them up), but I didn't want to get slapped with a forum ban. I have the descriptions typed out in my own, personal reference, so I won't need to refer to Frostburn each time.

Regarding Black Frost Smite... the BFC can choose either to Smite Good or Black Frost Smite. So, if he's fighting a good creature with some sort of cold immunity, he has the ability to Smite its goodie-two-shoes-ness.

Thank you for looking over my PrC. I sincerely appreciate your comments. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Looks good:thumbsup:, its appears to be pretty well balanced and the mechanics are sound. Just have to be worried about those pesky wizards and their dang... fireballs.
