Bladesinger + Sorcerer? [Archive] - Wizards Community

I'm looking over the Bladesinger prestige class in the Complete Warrior, which I got recently. I like almost everything about it (especially the art on the page ;) ) but for one thing. WHY don't they just say you must take levels in wizard? Why would I be saying that? Well, one of the most potent abilities of the bladesinger seems to be Song of Celerity. This is especially good for sorcerers, who are then able to apply metamagic feats and not take a full-round casting their spell. But look at Bladesong Style. It's an AC bonus (something badly, badly needed) that relies on intelligence. In other words, either make nearly every stat needed to be high if you play a sorcerer (Cha for spells, Int and Dex for attack and AC, Con and Str for fighting. Technically, you don't need to have that high strength, wisdom, constitution, or charisma, if you play a wizard.) or play a wizard.

So, any help on say, sorcerer like classes that use Int? Or a variant in a book I don't have, or UA? Sorry if that seemed like a rant, but I don't like WotC designing classes for wizards. They have enough power as it is.

Well, Bladesinger isn't very powerful as is, as it's only got 5/10 casting progession and serious prereqs. I expect the reason why it's so wizard orientated is because of it's fluff. Elves are wizards, this class is for elves. Ergo, wizard. But the Bladesinger itself is fluid and spontaneous like sorcerers. A good quick fix would be "Casting Stat to AC" instead of "Int to AC". It'd make it more attractive for pally gishes, too.

I think the Beguiler uses Int, but I'm not sure.

UA offers options to create generic classes, it is in the variants section of d20srd.org; however, I am far from sure they planned them to work with PrCs. Aside from that, the PHB II Beguiler is a spontaneous caster that works with intelligence. It could work, I suppose.

Although I disagree with you, Khatoblepas, on the power of the class (I think it would depend more on the player) I think that would be the simplest solution. I've only heard of the beguiler, I don't have the book it's in. So, I guess I'll do that. Oh well, I still think Elves shouldn't be associated with wizards so much, but whatever.

It's in the Player's Handbook II, in case you didn't know. It does cast based off of Int, but is also spontaneous. They can freely cast from their spell list (which is primarily Illusions and Enchantments), and get the spells per day of a sorcerer. They also have some other abilities to make up for their narrow focused casting.

Just one thing to keep in mind in case you want to make a beguiler bladesinger - beguilers, like bards and warlocks, can cast freely in light armor.

I know that most folk are very specific about wanting to play a Bladesinger, a lot of it for flavor reasons...but, have you considered playing a Duskblade?

I think they cast as sorcerer's, but I could be very wrong. I might be misconstruing them with Warmage.

Yeah, duskblades are Int-based, not Cha-based. Perhaps you were thinking of hexblades, which are in fact Cha-based.

Doh! No more guesses from the workplace from me!
