| Dyne06-02-07, 09:42 PM | Bleaklord The Bleaklords were originally the necromantic lords of the cursed city of Moil. Skilled in necromancy and cold magic, they created the first Bleakborn (also known as Moil zombies in some tomes). However, their power and corruption eventually led to the downfall of the Bleaklords, and Moil is now an undead-infested city of lost necromantic lore. Necromancers often travel to that city in search of dark knowledge, and some unlock the lost secrets of the Bleaklords. Hit Die: d4. Requirements Alignment: Any nongood. Skills: Knowledge (arcana) 8 ranks, Knowledge (religion) 8 ranks. Feats: Corpsecrafter, Deadly Chill, Energy Substitution (cold). Spells: Able to cast at least one cold spell and one necromancy spell, each of 3rd-level or higher. Special: Must have studied the ancient lore of Moil. Class Skills Concentration, Craft, Decipher Script, Diplomacy, Knowledge, Profession, and Spellcraft. Skill Points at Each Level: 2 + Int modifier. Spells per Day/Spells Known: At each level except 3rd and 8th, a Bleaklord gains new spells per day and spells known as if she gained a level in her existing spellcasting class. Rebuke Undead: A Bleaklord rebukes undead as an evil cleric. For the purposes of this ability, levels in Bleaklord are added to any previous classes that improve the rebuke undead ability. If the Bleaklord has no previous classes, she just uses her class level in Bleaklord. Cold Resistance: At 1st-level, a Bleaklord gains resistance to cold 5. At 4th-level, this resistance increases to 10, and at 7th-level it increases to 20. At 10th-level, a Bleaklord is immune to cold damage. Bonus Feat: At 2nd, 6th, and 9th-levels, a Bleaklord gains a bonus feat. This feat can be selected from any metamagic feat or from the following list: Extra Turning, Improved Turning, Spell Focus (necromancy), Greater Spell Focus (necromancy), Black Lore of Moil (CA), Bolster Resistance (LM), Destruction Retribution (LM), Empower Turning (LM), Hardened Flesh (LM), Heighten Turning (LM), Necromantic Might (LM), Necromantic Presence (LM), Nimble Bones (LM), Profane Lifeleech (LM), Profane Vigor (LM), Quicken Turning (LM), Undead Leadership (LM), Fearsome Necromancy (CM), Master of Undeath (CM), Metamagic School Focus (necromancy) (CM), Sickening Grasp (CM), and Winter's Blast (CM). Other related feats may be added to this list, at the DM's discretion. Cold Focus: At 3rd-level, a Bleaklord gains a +1 bonus to the DC of cold spells he casts. At 8th-level, this bonus increases to +2. Bleak Prowess: At 5th-level, a Bleaklord gains a +1 bonus to the caster level of all cold spells and all necromancy spells he casts. At 10th-level, this bonus increases to +2. Frozen Soul: At 10th-level, a Bleaklord gains the Cold subtype. This has two effects: the Bleaklord is immune to all cold damage, and he is vulnerable to fire damage (taking 50% more than normal). Bleak Touch: At 10th-level, a Bleaklord gains the ability to turn an enemy into a Bleakborn minion with a touch. This ability is usable once per day, and the Bleaklord must succeed on a melee touch attack against the target. If this touch attack fails, the Bleak Touch is not wasted for the day. If the touch attack succeeds, the target must make a Fortitude save (DC 20 + Bleaklord's Cha mod). If he fails this save, he is instantly slain, and he rises as a Bleakborn under the control of the Bleaklord. If his save succeeds, he instead takes 3d6+10 cold damage. If the Bleaklord successfully creates a Bleakborn minion, the creation of the undead is draining to him, and he loses 1,000 XP (these cannot be restored by any spell or effect). |
| Mordin06-02-07, 10:30 PM | I like this class quite a bit it’s simple but has a flavor of its own. Now some suggestions: 1- Bonus feats are powerful so I would do 1 of 2 things: either requires that you select a restricted school of magic (similar to a specialist wizard) or reduce the amount of bonus feats. It looks like a necromantic elemental savant. I like it |
| katarl06-03-07, 12:22 PM | This is one of these classes that doesn't really need input. Simple, flavourful, balanced. This could easily be a professional PrC, if it were srd compatible. However, I don't think bleak touch is necessary, it's quite apart from the other abilities. Cold immunity and +2 nec and cold is enough. |
| Dyne06-03-07, 02:56 PM | Thanks for the input both of you. The bonus feats are in there more to fill up dead levels, and because I don't like how few a number of feats characters get when there are so many numerous feat choices out there. I considered making it a "Necromancer only" class, but I decided to try having stringent feat requirements instead. Considering the Bleaklord gives up 2 levels of spellcasting for those bonus feats, I think it's relatively balanced. I might remove Bleak Touch and instead turn that into a separate spell; there's not any way to create Bleakborn minions that I'm aware of, so I tried to create my own way. |
| Pitiless_Interfector06-03-07, 05:21 PM | Don't forget! :D Your work is not done! :mymy: You MUST completely fill out the following data: Quote Becoming a Bleaklord Bleaklords in the World Bleaklords in the Game Playng a Bleaklord Bleaklord Lore Sample Encounter See any post-MoI splatbook (or my bladeweird PrC; see the sig spoiler) for the format. I command you! :gel: |
| Dyne06-06-07, 01:17 AM | Don't forget! :D Your work is not done! :mymy: You MUST completely fill out the following data: I don't usually do expanded formats, but maybe I'll get around to some of that stuff eventually. Updated the Bleaklord. Bleak Touch has been removed, they gain the cold subtype at 10th-level (instead of just cold immunity), and switched the spellcasting progression around a little to encourage people not to skip out on the 10th level. Oh, and I added a bunch of Frostburn feats to the bonus feat list. |
