| rone_leah05-18-07, 12:10 AM | Looking at a mephit pack, Garret thought, "Why do people let these things get so out of hand. If you just killed the first one you find it can't get a foot hold and I wouldn't have to go kill these pests." smirk, "But if they listen to me I'd be out of a job." - Garret Nailo Blight Hunters view the material plane as too crowded for nature to do its job so they find ways to let nature take its course. Blight hunters are warriors that go into enemy camps just to fight as many enemies as he can alone. Blight Hunters go into valleys filled with orcs, kolbolds, goblins, and any other mass population, to prove that numbers are nothing compared to a single well trained hunter. Adventures: Blight hunters go where theres is the most people to fight or kill based on the hunter's alignment. Though most don't go into town killing at random most find large cities noisy and can't do politics. Religion: Blight hunters worship deities with causes similiar to their own be it fighting undead or the ever numerous humans. Others pray to deities of nature for at their base that is why they truely hunt, but it is not uncommon for hunters to worship martial deities just for the added edge in a fight. Alignment: Good blight hunters go where war is hardest and test their abilities on the evils of the world. While evil blight hunters travel into kobold dens and let them pile on to let'em think they have a chance before, they rip'em to bits in a few seconds. Hit Dice: d8. Requirements: Alignment: Neutral good, lawful neutral, true neutral, chaotic neutral, neutral evil. Base Attack bonus: +7 Feats: Improved Initiative, Improved two weapon-fighting, Two weapon-fighting, weapon focus (any) Skills: Tumble 8 ranks Spells: Able to cast 1st-lvl spells. Class skills The Blight Hunter's class skills (and key ability for each skill) are Balance (Dex), Climb (Str), Concentration (Con), Escape Artist (Dex), Hide (Dex), Jump (Str), Listen (Wis), Move Silently (Dex), Sense Motive (Wis), Search (Int), Spot (Wis), Tumble (Dex), and Use Rope (Dex). Spells per Day/Spells Known: When a new blight hunter level is gained, except 6th, 8th, and 10th, the character gains new spells per day (and spells known, if applicable) as if he had also gained a level in a spellcasting class he belonged to before he added the prestige class. He does not, however, gain any other benefit a character of that class would have gained. Uncanny dodge: Constantly being under the threat of attack, a blight hunter gains the ability to react to danger before his sense's would normally allow him. He gains the uncanny dodge class ability. If the blight hunter already has the uncanny dodge ability from another class he instead gets the improved uncanny dodge ability (see below). Crowded Fury: For every additional opponent after the first that threaten you gain a +1 dodge bonus to hit, damage and armor class, limited to half your class level rounded down. For example a 5rd level blight hunter is threatened by six enemies he gains a +2 dodge bonus to attack rolls, damage rolls and armor class. Frenzied Hunt (Su): The blight hunter gains the ability to sacrifice a spell for the day to gain a +1 morale bonus to strength and dexterity per spell level sacrificed. It lasts for a number of rounds equal to the level of the spell sacrificed, + the blight hunter's class level. This ability does not hamper any of the blight hunter's other abilities but at the end of the frenzy he is fatigued, but may invoke this ability again. The penalties of the fatigue still apply and after this frenzy ends he is exhausted and he may not frenzy again for 1 hour per spell level sacrificed. Greater Two-weapon fighting: The hunter gains greater two-weapon fighting as a bonus feat, even if he does not meet the prerequisites. Dash: Fighting alone means getting into and out of striking range fast. Whenever the hunter makes a five foot step he may move five feet more than normal, every four levels after 5th he can move an additional five feet Improved uncanny dodge: The blight hunters gain the lightning reflexes feat and the improved uncanny dodge class feature. If the blight hunter already has improved uncanny dodge he gains a +4 bonus to listen and spot checks. Vengeance of light: Once per encounter, as a swift action, you may call forth the anger of the material plane to immolate yourself in light as bright as candle light. This ability does nothing if not surrounded buy, at least two of the same type of creature. If the conditions are met adjacent creatures take 1d6 points of damage per point crowded fury bonus you receive and lasts until you are no longer threatened. Hunter's path: At this level a hunter perfects his trade and is now a (native) outsider. The hunter gains damage reduction 2/- and a 10 resistance to a choosen energy type. In addition the hunter's aging guidelines are now double the norm for its race. |
| captianhowdy05-18-07, 01:46 AM | I like it. Throwin in a bit of everything druidic and rangerly. |
| Alyss05-18-07, 10:20 AM | Yeah, this look prety cool, and not overpowered |
| Zaistars6905-18-07, 10:56 AM | so you produced a super ranger class that can only be taken by a ranger by level 10? I don't get the point. With the massive number of prereqs this class has it seems to be a bit weak. this would be a great class for a fighter to take but with the way you made the prereqs it would be impossible. Anyone other than a ranger is going to need to burn a crap load of feats, multi class at least once probably twice. Then again if that is what you were going for than it seems you accomplished your goal. Now, the Cleave and whirlwind attack trees work much better in taking out large number of baddies than the TWF tree. Just something to think about. dodge? Why dodge, it only works against one opponent per round, doesn't seem to fit the flavor for this class. Unless you are rationalizing it against the dodge bonuses they get later on. Strange. |
| rone_leah05-18-07, 12:11 PM | Correction Zaistars69 a ranger could have taken it at 9th. But not anymore change dodge to improved initiative, and I toned down the skill pre-reqs. I want to know how is he super? |
| Zaistars6905-18-07, 01:44 PM | Correction Zaistars69 a ranger could have taken it at 9th. But not anymore change dodge to improved initiative, and I toned down the skill pre-reqs. I want to know how is he super? Ranger gets evasion at 9th so he would have to be 10th level to take this class. Plus two of the skill requirements are 12 ranks which can only be done after your 9th level of ranger so you would have to be level 10 to take the first level. ie 9 levels of ranger / 1 level this class, ie 10th level. I guess I should have stated 10th level character to be clearer. I called it a super class, not in the over powered sense, because after 10th level of ranger they stop really getting any good class features. This class has them in spades. I'm not saying it's bad or unballanced it is just Ranger ala super because he will be loads better than any other straight ranger out there. Then again you did reduce the sp to 4 so that will slow things down a bit but not really since this class is so specialized anyway. |
| rone_leah05-18-07, 04:40 PM | You're correct Zaistars69. That is indeed the point of the class to be taken by rangers, and those poor Fighter/rogue/wizard hybrids built because people think bards are weak. Thinking of replacing the vengeance of light ability, but with what I don't know. Any help would be great. Should I restrict the frenzied hunt ability? Its balanced with bite of the were-bear I think. Just that feeling of "fighters don't get nice things". I mean I like the class but I was hoping to have to change something to make ME think of something other than some hacked off some feat website. |
| rone_leah01-14-08, 10:25 PM | I think I can bump this now.:D Changed so many things, but the pre-reqs still don't seem right any suggestions. And please cast them my will save is low. |
| Omnirahk, half-Rahkshi01-18-08, 11:32 PM | For frenzied hunt, I don't see the value for the morale bonus you get. I'm guessing +2 (and maybe later class features should increase the value), but currently it's blank. It's a pretty neat idea - a mookslayer. From what I've heard of 4e, it ought to work even better there. Personally, I'd change the Blight Senses and Blight Reflexes abilities to just be named the same as the class features that they function identically to. It always bothers me to see a new name for something that already has a name (and the text explicitly references it). Maybe you should consider as an ability at some point along the way the ability to ignore flanking bonuses against you. And seeing as the blight hunter focuses on killing off large groups, favored enemy advancement might be a good thing to include. Pretty good start. |
| rone_leah02-16-08, 10:04 PM | There put up the value of the frenzied hunt bonus. |
| DonThelonious02-17-08, 04:49 AM | It looks pretty well balanced as far as I can tell. One thing that bothers me is the dead level you have at level 6. I hate dead levels and you could easily move around the spell-per-level progression to at least give players something. |
| Neraagile02-21-08, 11:56 PM | Greater Two-weapon fighting: The hunter gains greater two-weapon fighting as a bonus feat, even if he does not meet the prerequisites This thing is the only thing I have something against. Its really, really, really, really really wierd.... make list of bonus feats or something .... but rest is really cool I like it :D Edit: just noticed level 6..... outch .... |
