I have been mulling over a character build that I would like to make an efficient dragonhunter. I know making the statment of starting as a ranger is redundant but I am a bit unsure about the composition of PrC levels and if I should take any more levels of ranger beyond the Preqs needed for said PrCs. I am definatly going to be using the Leviathan Hunter from Stormwrack, but I am stuck between choosing to take levels of Dragonslayer or Dragonstalker. So which do you feel is the better fitting of these two PrCs or maybe should I even take levels in both, and hopefully not killing myself with xp penalties.

I really depends on what type of hunter you are making are you going for the toe-to-toe type hunter that runs around with a party of dragon hunters of a sneak thief type.

My personal dragon slayer is a half-dragon (red) that despises his parent kind (red dragons) for destroying the small barbarian village he was raised in (there is amore to it but that would take a long time) he’s a Bab/Rgr/Sor, Dragon Slayer. With a small party of like minded companions (2 others) we have been quite successful.

Since you are taking leviathan hunter I would go with Dragon Stalker for the extra “sneak” damage and stay away from the Dragon Slayer JMO. Oh and there is no XP loss for “multi-classing” in PrC’s.

I always thought PrCs counted towards xp penalties, which books does it make that statement cause I have been playing for about 3 years and I guess I have still missed it. And yes I was trying to go for a hunt that loves to take dragons on toes to toe, just as any Levithan Hunter would. Plus I see what you are saying about the Slayer, plus the spell progression does jack for a ranger.

Personally, I've got a character that's started off as a forsaker, and eventually hope to make the dragonslayer combo, putting the ability bonuses into con to raise Hp, and keep the fight going. I dunno. seemed like a sound idea to me.

If you want to go through the hassle of getting it, the Vassal of Bahamut PrC in Book of Exalted Deeds is an excellent dragon slaying class, as long as they are evil dragons. If you hit them, you do extra damage, and some is permanent. If they hit you, they take extra damage.
