Ok, I am looking at taking Green Star Adept (Complete Arcane) and the benefit Improved Caster states that every level of GSA counts as a Bonus CL for the previous SpellCaster (which mine is Duskblade) In addition every even level give +1 spellcaster level, so if I have a DuskBlade5, GSA 4 would my CL be 11 (5dusk+4GSA+2spellcaster at levels 2 and 4 of GSA.

Also would practice spellcaster apply since you can apply CL bonus to benefit the caster the most.

I remember reading about a long thread about this very topic, but I dont remember the link...

1. Anyway, i think what your saying is correct, as in a Duskblade 5/GSA4 would have a catser level of 11, because the caster level bonuses are coming from different abilities(one from an ability that specifically improves caster level, and one that improves caster level as well as spells per day and spells known) as well as being untyped bonuses. Just remember that the improved caster level doesnt mean more spells known or per day, so in your example could only cast spells per day and known as though he were a 7th level duskblade.

2. I think practiced spellcaster would not work because the missing caster levels that you have b/c of the GSA are filled up due to the improved caster level ability

No, and no.

Every GSA level adds to your CL. Every odd (or is it even?) level ALSO adds to your spells/day/known.

Practiced Spellcaster cannot advance your CL to beyond your HD.

Practiced Spellcaster cannot advance your CL to beyond your HD.
You are however, allowed to stack the order of application in the sequence which would be most beneficial to you (as verified by the FAQ).

This means that you can choose to first apply practiced spellcaster for the +4 caster lv, then add the +10 caster lv increase from GSA10 on top of this.

So for the duskblade5/GSA4 scenario, it would have 7th lv duskblade casting, and a base caster lv of 7. If you took practiced spellcaster, it would bring its caster lv up to 9. Then you add the GSA caster lv bonus of +4 last, for a final caster lv of 13.:)

And for sheer icing on the cake, have a bard inspire greatness on you. Practiced spellcaster works on those 2 temp HD as well, for another +2 caster lv.:)

Yeah, and people say ToB is broken  This would mean PrSpellc works on any prestige class combo. Runestar, care to show me a DM that would accept your calculations? Little siblings or SOs don't count, btw :P

I would say that every GSA level advances your caster level, but only even levels advance your spellcasting. Hence, in your case you should have the spells known and slots of a lvl 7 duskblade, but with the caster level of a level9 duskblade.

Agreed 100%.

@runestar. I know the FAQ says that is gets applied in the most beneficial way. But it only gives examples of "bonus" CL's (from the Healing domain, and and item). The CL from a PrC stack with your base CL. They are not a bonus to your CL, they simply increase it.

@OP. You should have the spells known of a Duskblade 7, with a CL of 9.

Wouldn't the +1 to existing spellcasting class gained at every other level advance your caster level as well? So that the prc gives you a 15 caster level baonus, but only 5 levels for increasing spells known and per day.

I'm sorry if this comes off as arguing with you(I'm not meaning it that way:D ) I just wanted to clarify because this happened before alreay I really just dont remember the link....sorry.

No, it wouldn't. The Improved Caster Level ability even goes so far as to provide a working example of a 5th-level wizard / 4th-level green start adept, being able to cast spells of up to 4th-level with a CL of 9.

Thanks for pointing that out Marcus! Looks like I completely missed that:eek: I shall stand down until another day:cool:
