Class with DR [Archive] - Wizards Community

07-17-07, 09:17 AM I'm DM'ing a new campaign soon, and a player said he is looking for a class with lots of DR, and an ability where he doesn't attack much, but when someone damages him, the opponent takes damage. I've racked my brain, and can think of a Karma feat, but that is it. So I'm reaching out to the boards. Does anyone have an Idea?

07-17-07, 11:24 AM Well, the Green Star Adept (from Complete Mage) slowly turns you into a construct, and you get DR X/Adamantie, where X is the class level (IIRC).

As for the damaging back part, all I can think of off hand is Rolibar's Gambit (sp?) from the PHBII. I think you get an AoO if you're hit (or something like that). That's probably not what he's looking for though.

07-17-07, 12:49 PM I don't recall the methods to return damage to sender but two Core classes with DR are the Barbarian and Dwarven Defender. In Eberron there may be ways for a Warforged to get/improve DR as well.

This may not be RAW but I'd generally allow class/racial DR of the same type to stack in some manner. Remember this is not typical.

Barbarian (perhaps with the berserker strength alternate class feature from PHB II) and Hammer of Moradin (PGtF) are good choices. There's also the Dwarven Defender and Frenzied Berserker, but they each have such serious drawbacks (DD can't move and FB likes to kill allies) that I can't really recommend them.

That sounds a bit like the fighter's counterattack alternate feature (PHB II).

Karmic Strike (CWar) allows you to make an AoO whenever somebody actually hits you, and Robilar's Gambit (PHB II) allows you to make an AoO whenever somebody merely tries to attack you. You can actually use both of them together, and potentially attack somebody twice every time they attack you once.

07-18-07, 12:34 AM Actually, I just helped my sister build a whole character around the concept of "you hurt me, you'll seriously regret it." She's an ardent, from the Complete Psionics book, with one of her primary mantels as the Pain and Suffering one. Nearly all of her powers are the Empathic Transfer chain (Empathic Transfer, Hostile Empathic Transfer, and several others). In addition, she has a ring of retribution and an amulet of vengence. Basically, she needs to get hit, but once she does, her attacker wishes he had never been born. It doesn't help with the DR, but the Green Star Adept could certainly help there, as could something as simple as some adamatium armor...
