Some prestige classes have requirements such as "Must worship a God with a chaotic alignment" (or similar). But, the books explicitly allow clerics to worship only domains and no Gods at all. So, domain clerics would seem to locked out of these prestige classes.

Is there a standard way to deal with this unequal access (perhaps some rule)? It seems unfair to keep perfectly legal characters from entering these prestige classes.

Well, yeah, so would any cleric who worships a different deity than the PrC requires. So? All it does is restrict to certain deity worshiping clerics, like RSoP for Pelor and RKV for Wee Jas. It's not like a N/G cleric of Heironeous can enter RSoP.

The godless clerics have a different advantage: they can choose from any domain.

There are several ways to look at the problem.

The most obvious is having alternative Gods that have access to the same PrC. The Radient Servant of Pelor may seem worthless in the Realms where Pelor doesn't exsist but the class is easy enough to pass on to some other god with a similiar profile.

Besides altering the required target of worship a DM can also adjust the class to key off of certain characteristics. A PrC only open to worshipers of chaotic gods should definitely be open to a domain priest with Chaos as a domain. I'd say that if your selected domains match the apparent requirement then you should be allowed into the PrC; maybe you don't explicitly worship the named god but it notices you and allows you in hoping to bring you into the fold.

dman, while I see your point about something like RSoP, I had in mind something like a seemingly deity-neutral PrC like the Warlock-Priest combination in Complete Mage. It strikes that unlike RSoP there isn't even a thematic reason to restrict entrance to that class.

I didn't even know that that class restricted alignment-wise. Here's what I think that is: an ignoring of the fact that you can be a cleric without worshiping a deity and just putting in the C or E restriction of the warlock. So I think that if you are either C or E you should be able to take that PrC. If anything do what Steven said and require either the C or E domains.

Technically/strictly speaking, if the class's requirement says 'Must worship a god with a chaotic alignment', and your cleric does not worship a god, you cannot qualify and thus cannot take levels in said class.

I would consider it on a case-by-case basis, myself.

He knows that, he just doesn't think it's fair. And I agree in this case, I feel that it may have been a case of ignoring the fact that clerics can be without a deity. Though, if the class abilities are particularly deity specific (as in, needs to have a deity to make sense) you might not want to change it.
