I had this thought last night about how the Combat Trapsmith could be devastating.

Scout 8/ Combat Trapsmith 5/ Exemplar 1

The rest of the build isn't important. So long as you keep max ranks in Craft Trapmaking once you get these levels in place, you can't fail to set even the most complicated trap in the Combat Trapsmith's arsenal. And once you've acquired Improvised Materials setting traps will cost next to nothing since you won't need to buy a trapsmith's kit.

Although it would still take someone who thinks ahead and knows how to use the terrain to his advantage to make this character an NPC's worst nightmare.

Hehe i know its really not in line with the topic but i cant help it. We had a trapsmith kill a party member by trapping his inn room window with glitterdust . Unfortunatly the pc was playing a prostitute assassin and brought her mark to her hotel room, after she killed him she dumped him out the window and set off the trap covering her in glitterdust and alerting the gaurds who promptly arrested and executed her.

Having that level of Exemplar is awesome. I get the +4 competence bonus to Craft Trapmaking so I can hit any of the DCs pretty easily, but if you choose Craft Trapmaking as one of your mastered skills you can take 10 on the roll. Just after taking that one level you never need to buy another Trapmaking's kit.

Any suggestions on how to improve it further with some kind of gear?

At that level that character wouldn't be very effective. The best traps that you are laying down are equal to level 2 spells. Scout doesn't really add anything to the combat trapsmith. You are better off just attacking than wasting a standard action
