| grimmolate07-31-07, 09:37 PM | I was looking for a Prc for my current character but didn't find anything that seemed to fit him, so here is my attempt at coming up with my own idea. He is the party's only arcane caster and I would like to not have to lose a caster level, otherwise I would be happy for any advice on balancing this class. Thanks. Corrosive Disgorger Many fear the nauseating, burning effects of acid, but some have come to thrive on its corroding energy so much that it oozes through their veins. These individuals must have a high stamina in order to survive the effects of this most dastardly of energies, and the longer they work with it, the more they become filled with its presence and power. Eventually the Corrosive Disgorger is able to call the acid forth from their bodies and work it to thwart their foes. Requirements Spells: Able to cast 7th-level arcane spells, able to cast five spells with the acid descriptor, at least one of which must be 6th-level or higher. Feats: Spell Focus (Conjuration), Greater Spell Focus (Conjuration), Spell Mastery (any three with the Acid descriptor), Energy Substitution (Acid), plus any one other metamagic feat. Skills: Spellcraft 16 Ranks, Knowledge (Arcana) 16 Ranks Class Skills The Corrosive Disgorger's class skills (and the key ability for each skill) are Concentration (con), Craft (int), Knowledge (all skills taken individually) (int), Profession (wis), and Spellcraft (int) Skill Points at Each Level: 2 + Int Modifier Class FeaturesAll the following are class features of the Corrosive Disgorger prestige class Hit Dice: d4 Weapon and Armor Proficiency: Corrosive Disgorger gains no proficiency with any weapon or armor. Spells per Day/Spells Known: When a new Corrosive Disgorger level is gained, the character gains new spells per day (and spells known, if applicable) as if he had also gained a level in whatever arcane spell casting class in which he could cast 7th-level spells before he added the prestige class level. He does not, however gain any other benefit a character of that class would have gained (bonus metamagic or item creation feats, and so on). If a character had more than one arcane spell casting class in which he could cast 8th-level spells before he became an Corrosive Disgorger, he must decide to which class he adds each level of Corrosive Disgorger for the purpose of determining spells per day. Acid Resistance (Ex): As the Corrosive Disgorger grows in power he becomes more resistant to acid and its effects. 1st level the Corrosive Disgorger gains a resistance of 5 + his Con modifier. 2nd level he gains a resistance of 10 + his Con modifier. 3rd level he gains a resistance of 20 + his Con modifier. 4th level he has a resistance of 40 + his Con modifier. 5th level he gains immunity to all acid effects. (These benefits act as damage reduction) Acidic Specialization: At 1st-level a Corrosive Disgorger gains a +2 competence bonus on attack rolls made with his acid spells. He also adds +1 bonus to each die of damage dealt by spells he casts with the acid descriptor. If the spell doesn't deal damage expressed by dice, he adds only a +1 bonus to the total damage dealt (this damage does not stack with the effects of the acid sheath spell). Bonus Spells (Ex): At second level a Corrosive Disgorger gains extra spells with the acid descriptor. If he normally prepare spells, he can prepare and cast one additional spell with the acid descriptor per spell level each day. This ability works just like (and stacks with) a specialist wizard's extra school spell. If he doesn't need to prepare spells, he gains one extra spell slot per spell level, which can be used only to cast a spell with the acid descriptor. (Spells that don’t normally contain the Acid descriptor can not be placed in these slots.) Corrosive Secretion (Su): At 3rd level; 2 + his base constitution modifier times per day the Corrosive Disgorger may replace a 2nd level or higher spell that contains the acid descriptor, with the ability to secrete a thick layer of corrosive acid as a standard action. Corrosive secretion adds a +2 deflection bonus to AC. If the attacker successfully hits the Corrosive Disgorger, the layer of acid has a chance to corrode the weapon being used, the weapon must make a 1d20 + hardness (158 PHB) save vs. DC (10 + Corrosive Disgorger level + constitution modifier) or take 2 + constitution modifier of acid damage. If the attacker is using a natural weapon, then the attacker must make fortitude save vs. the above DC or take the above mentioned damage. The weapon must repeat this save for a number of rounds equal to the Corrosive Disgorger's constitution modifier. If the damage exceeds the weapons hit points it becomes sundered. Corrosive Secretion effects all normal, natural (If creatures are normally immune to acid damage, they are immune to Corrosive Secretion), or masterwork weapons, but not magical weapons (magical weapons are still considered magical in the presence of anti- magic field with regards to this ability) or artifacts. Corrosive secretion lasts for 2 rounds. If the attacker takes a full round action to clean the weapon, or the weapon makes its save before the total number of rounds is up, the effect ends. Acidic Squalor (Su): At 4th level; 1 + his base constitution modifier times per day the Corrosive Disgorger may choose to replace any spell he casts that is 4th level or higher and has the acid descriptor with the ability to, as a standard action, create a sticky acidic pool at the feet of his target. In place of the spells normal effect the spell creates a 15 foot diameter pool that hinders movement and makes the target extremely sickened and weak. All creatures within the area of the pool move at ½ speed. Each round a creature remains in the area it must make a Fortitude save vs. a DC of 10 + Acidic Conjurer level + constitution modifier or take 2 + ½ Con modifier (round down) of Constitution and Strength damage. Even if the creature makes its save it still becomes sickened for one round. The pool lasts for a number of rounds equal to the casters Con modifier and can be projected to a range of 25ft. + 5ft. / Corrosive Disgorger level. If creatures are normally immune to acid damage they are immune to Acidic Squalor. Acid Saturation (Su): At 5th level; 3 times per day the Corrosive Disgorger may choose to replace any spell he casts that is 6th level or higher and contains the acid descriptor with the ability to, as a standard action, spew forth a sluice of acid that totally envelopes one creature. The acid absorbs into every poor and crevice completely saturating the creature’s body with the corrosive fluid. The creature must make a Fortitude save (DC 10 + Corrosive Disgorger level + Con modifier) or die of the smothering corroding effects. Even if the creature saves they still take damage equal to 5d4 + Con modifier and are paralyzed for a number of rounds equal to 1\2 Con modifier (round down). Any creature whose hit dice exceed twice your Corrosive Disgorger level must make a Fortitude save (DC 10 + Corrosive Disgorger level + Con modifier) or take damage equal to 5d4 + Con modifier and are paralyzed for a number of rounds equal to 1\2 Con modifier (round down). Acid Saturation can be projected up to a range of 20ft. + 5ft. / Corrosive Disgorger level. If creatures are normally immune to acid damage they are immune to Acid Saturation. A creature is only susceptible to Acid Saturation once in an 8 hour period. | Cuddly_Wuddlykins07-31-07, 11:34 PM | Im not good with class balance but i actually like it:) |
| Incendius08-03-07, 09:57 PM | It feels a bit overpowered to me; most wizards would have those three metamagic feats, the only sacrifices are SF: Conjuration and Elemental Substitution: Acid, I don't know, I'm just getting bad vibes, two feats for acid immunity and a whole host of benefits? |
| Ogreman08-06-07, 01:31 PM | The ability Corrosive Secretion, in particular, seems overpowered: mostly because it activates as a move action. Using an ability score as a prerequisite for a PrC is considered bad form by some, but I think that anybody building for this class would have an excellent Con anyway, because so many of the class abilities rely on it. Also, flavor-wise it would make more sense for this guy to have a good Fort save, and poor Ref and Will. Just my :twocents: |
| grimmolate08-08-07, 09:24 PM | Thank you for the feedback everyone. I agree that the requirements need working on, so I am going to add Greater Spell Focus: Conjuration, and Spell Mastery: any three with the Acid descriptor. So that makes four required feats the wizard has no choice over, three feats that must be meta-magic and the loss of a bonus feat at 20th level. I totally agree with the casting time for Corrosive Secretion, so I will change that to a standard action, and I also really like the idea of the Fortitude save being higher than the Will and Reflex saves, so I will change that as well. Thanks again for the ideas and criticism, if anybody else has opinions, feel free to post them. |
| grimmolate08-21-07, 12:23 AM | I have changed how the special abilities function for this class as well as the requirements. If anyone has an opinion, feel free to post. |
