The future will become the past and the past the future. A soul reborn will fulfill the niche he or she was destining to fulfill. The Grand Cycle The innumerable number of roles to be filled are more limited in scope for a hero. A person with a great destiny or fate has had its fill of adventure in its past lives. (Minimum of 1) 20- Life of the Great Hero: One weapon you are wielding is treated as being a masterwork weapon. *For Tieflings, at their first level they gain the following in place of rolling: Demon’s Blood: You gain a minor breath weapon. It deals 2d8 point of fire damage. *For Aasimar, at their first level they gain the following in place of rolling: Celestial Blood: You gain feathered wings and can fly at twice the base creature’s base land speed (good maneuverability). Requirements Feats: Iron Will, Evasion Skills: Concentration 8 Ranks, *Knowledge (The Grand Cycle) 1 Rank, Diplomacy 6 Ranks *Obtained by way of NPC or Plot. GM’s decision. In order to recall a past life he must roll a Concentration vs. 10 + his Cycle Soul level. The effects last for 5 rounds. He can use this ability one time per day times half his Concentration score. (Concentration = 10, he can use this 5 times per day) A Cycle Soul can end an effect at any time as a free action. Uncanny Dodge (Ex): Starting at the 2nd level and higher a Cycle Soul can react to danger before his senses would normally allow him to do so. He retains his Dexterity bonus to AC (if any) even if he is caught flat-footed or struck by an invisible attacker. However, he still loses his Dexterity bonus to AC if immobilized. The Grand Cycle (Ex): At the 3rd level, a Cycle Soul begins to understand the fabric of the Grand Cycle. By reading its patterns and cycles, a Cycle Soul can predict events to come. If a Cycle Soul spends 1d20 min researching the Grand Cycle, they can apply half their Cycle Soul level to Initiative checks. Sharing this information with others gives them the ability to apply 1/4th your Cycle Soul level to Initiative checks as they hear it second hand. Improved Vicarious Living (Ex): At the 4th level, a Cycle Soul can hold on to a recalled life. After 5 rounds he can make a concentration check against a DC of 20 + his Cycle Soul level. If he succeeds, he is able to maintain the bonus it gives for another 5 rounds before he is forced to make another check. A Cycle Soul many voluntarily chose to fail this check. Knowledge of Many Lives (Ex): A Cycle Soul has lived threw many lives. Starting at the 5th level and higher he may a special knowledge check with a bonus equal to his Cycle Soul level + his Intelligence modifier to see whether he knows some relevant information about local notable people, legendary items, or noteworthy places. (If the Cycle Soul has 5 or more ranks in Knowledge (history), he gains a +2 bonus on this check.) A successful Knowledge of Many Lives check will not reveal the powers of a magic item but may give a hint as to its general function. A bard may not take 10 or take 20 on this check; this sort of knowledge is essentially random. Various Minds (Ex): At the 6th level and higher, a Cycle Soul can attempt to recall a second past life while already recalling the first. This is a very difficult task, and it requires a great deal of concentration. In order to recall a second past life he must roll a Concentration vs. 10 + twice his Cycle Soul level. If he fails this check, he looses both past lives. If he wishes to use the “Improved Vicarious Living” ability, the check is double the normal check. Vicarious Grace (Ex): At the 7th level or higher, a Cycle Soul has learned a good deal more about the past lives he is able to recall. He gains +5 to all Concentration checks for recalling past lives. Physical Recall (Su): A master Cycle Soul can alter their features to that of a past life. Starting at the 8th level and higher, they can chose to assume the physical appearance of the past life they are recalling. They gain a +10 bonus on disguise checks. This works exactly like a disguise self spell, except the Cycle Soul cannot change clothing or equipment. It is a transmutation effect. A Cycle Soul can choose to remove this effect as a free action. Revered Ancestor (Ex): At the 8th level, 10th level, 12th, 14th, 16th, 18th, and 20th a Cycle Soul can select one of his past lives to study with great intensity. That selected past life can be recalled with out a Concentration check. Improved Vicarious Grace (Ex): At the 10th level or higher, a Cycle Soul has come to terms with all the past lives he once lived. He receives a +10 to all concentration checks for recalling past lives and can recall a past life as a free action. |
| vanriku01-22-08, 04:56 PM | Note: This class was based on the more Native American idea of Circular Time. Wester views express time as a linear and lacking a predetermined future. Many other cultures view time as circular. Everything repeats on its own revolution (depending on the society). In this class, it makes reference to the "Grand Cycle". This is my own interpretation of the "general scheme of things". If you have some sort of knowledge that might predict what would happen in the future, you can better understand the past and maybe even the present. SO (I know its kind of a round-about way of saying it) if a character was to take "Knowledge (The Grand Cycle)" a GM might allow a character who has that knowledge to apply that towards certain Lore or even Knowledge (History) or (Religion) checks if they want to. Again, its up to the GM. PS: I can't find a good, simple explanation for Circular Time for the common person reading this. PSS: There is something resembling good scientific evidence to support this. I for one and from the west and like my Linear Time. |
| Molot01-25-08, 04:47 AM | In one hand, this class will never work well for a caster, hardly for rogue-alike, and average for fighting types... and you never know what you hit. On the other hand, if you'll roll 1/2 of level to charisma 5 times... *10 levels... +25 to Diplomacy means you'll never need to do rolls at all. Or if it's not cumulative, then it'd be +5 over 10 levels - waste. Try to make this class shorter. Try to focus it on one type (not class!) of entry characters. Make it's overall power less dependent on rolls. Flavor - ok, may be random. But not total power. |
| vanriku01-30-08, 01:31 AM | I was trying to build it like a jack of all trades. Like a bard, only more focused on the versatile aspect. Should I remove the random part and allow for selection? Maybe allow the players choice of random vs selected? Edit: I didn't put it, but the bonuses gained from your past lives do not stack. |
| DonThelonious01-30-08, 02:30 AM | I am not sure who wrote or published it, but I am pretty sure the title is Monty Cooks Arcana Unearthed (not the WoTC book Unearthed Arcana, this is a different book). It is similar to a PHB in that it has new and interesting races (like a halfling that cocoons and morphs into a tiny winged pixie-thing) and some really neat classes. The reason I brought this up is that one of the classes is called the Akashic Warrior. What he does is tap into the universal memory of everything and everyone in the world, past or present. If he needs to be a sailor than he taps into the collective memory of all the sailors around him and *poof* he has temporary ranks in Profession (sailor), any other skills he needs *poof* he has them for a short period of time. This PrC reminds me a lot of that class, but instead of tapping into the akashic memory you instead delve into the memories of your past lives. If you can find the book I suggest taking a look at this class. The book also has a few other very cool and unique classes as well as the most unique races I have yet seen (except for maybe the dromite, those things are creepy). |

It sounds interesting. I'll look into it. Thanks! -Van |
