| 3DJutsu04-10-07, 12:04 PM | Why did I revise it? I dunno, I guess I just got that bored. Anyways here it is, and I hope you find it pleasing to your palate. And remember Come heavy or not at all. (http://www.threepanelsoul.com/) Deepwood Sniper A Deepwood Sniper is patient, careful, quite, and deadly accurate. She is a stealthy, long-range terminator whose arrows sail accuratly from much longer distances than those of other archers. In addition, she has magical abilites to help her shafts fly true. Requirements BAB: +5 Skills: Hide 4 ranks, Move Silently 4 ranks, Spot 4 ranks, Craft (Bowyer) 8 ranks Feats: Far Shot, Point Blank Shot, Weapon Focus (any bow or crossbow) HD: d8 Skills: (4+Int modifier) Balance (Dex), Climb (Str), Craft (Int), Escape Artist (Dex), Hide (Dex), Jump (Str), Know (Nature) (Int), Listen (Wis), Move Silently (Dex), Profession (Wis), Search (Int), Sense Motive (Wis), Spot (Wis), Swim (Str), Survival (Wis). Level BAB Fort Ref Will Special 1 +1 +0 +2 +0 Snipers' eye, range bonus 2 +2 +0 +3 +0 Magic weapon, poison use 3 +3 +1 +3 +1 Critical bonus +1, camouflage 4 +4 +1 +4 +1 Improved Critical, take aim +2 5 +5 +1 +4 +1 Lucky shot 1/day, master of the unseen 6 +6 +2 +5 +2 Greater focus 7 +7 +2 +5 +2 Lucky shot 2/day, snipers' shot 8 +8 +2 +6 +2 Critical bonus +2, take aim +4 9 +9 +3 +6 +3 Lucky shot 3/day, hide in plain sight 10 +10 +3 +7 +3 True strike, sniping mastery Class Features Snipers' Eye(Ex): The sniper has great visual acuity and suffers only a -1 per 20ft of distance on spot checks (not the usual -1 per 10ft of distance) and a -1 per range increment when using a bow or crossbow. In addition, if the deepwood sniper can catch her target flatfooted and is at least 30 ft away, she gains a +1 bonus on her ranged attack rolls. This bonus increases by +1 per three deepwood sniper levels. In order to gain this bonus on more than one attack roll the sniper must meet the requirements for each shot. Range bonus (Ex): A deepwood sniper can fire a bow or crossbow farther than most thanks to her training, gaining a bonus to her weapons range increment equal to 10ft per class level. This bonus is added in after all modifiers. Magic Weapon (Sp): At 2nd level a deepwood sniper can produce an effect similar to that of a Magic Weapon spell as cast by a cleric of her class level. This ability only works on a bow or crossbow. The deepwood sniper can use this ability once per day. Poison Use (Ex): A 2nd level deepwood sniper can apply poison to a weapon without risking accidental poisoning. Deepwood snipers sometime employ poison to bring down a foe quickly. Critical Bonus (Ex): At 3rd level the critical multiplier for any bow or crossbow the deepwood sniper has weapon focus for increases by 1 (thus a crossbow in her hands has is a 19-20/x3). This bonus increases to +2 at 8th level. Camouflage (Ex): At 3rd level the deepwood sniper gains camouflage as per the ranger ability of the same name. Improved Critical (Ex): At 4th level, a deepwood sniper gains the Improved Critical feat for any bow or crossbow for which she has the Weapon Focus feat for. Take Aim (Ex): As a full round action, a deepwood sniper of 4th level or higher can aim at a target, as long her target moves no more than 5ft before her next turn, aiming in this fashion grants the deepwood sniper a +2 bonus on her first attack in that round. If her target moves more than 5ft before the deepwood snipers next turn, this bonus is lost. At 8th level this bonus increases to +4. Lucky Shot (Su): At 5th level, a deepwood sniper has a chance to have a wild shot still connect with her target. Once per day she can reroll any ranged attack roll with a bow or crossbow. She must keep the second roll, even if it’s worse than the original one. A deepwood sniper can use this ability twice a day at 7th level, and three times a day at 10th level. Master of the Unseen (Ex): A deepwood sniper of 5th level or higher is so certain of her ability to remain unseen from her foes that she gains the ability to take 10 on Hide and Move Silently checks. Greater Focus (Ex): A 6th level deepwood sniper gains the Greater Weapon Focus feat for any bow or crossbow for which she has the Weapon Focus feat for. Snipers’ Shot (Ex): As a full-round action, a deepwood sniper of 7th level can fire a single shot up to her maximum range with no penalties for range. Hide in Plain Sight (Ex): At 9th level a deepwood sniper gains the ability to hide in plain sight. See the ranger ability of the same name. Sniping Mastery (Ex): At 10th level, a deepwood sniper who has successfully hidden at least 30ft away from her target and makes one or more ranged attacks can then immediately hide as a free action with a -10 penalty on the hide check (instead of the usual -20 for sniping) True Strike (Sp): Once per day, a deepwood sniper of 10th level can produce an effect similar to that of a true strike spell. This ability only works on a bow or crossbow. Sorry this is formatted oddly, but I am unsure as how to do it as I’ve seen (Thanks to aura888 and RobbyPants for helping with that). This is actually my first class revision. Comments anyone? You like? I realize this doesn't fix the problem of snipers not doing enough damage at a range greater than 30-60ft, but I fiqure if you can remain hidden then you won't need to worry about being hit, which means you have longer to do damage before being caught. EDIT: Upon further thought, the class needs more 'sniper' features so I'm replacing the concealment reduction with an attack bonus amongst other things. Updating it as I fix it. Also need help with the flavor, I pretty much just took the middle paragrapgh out of the class description itself. |
| AngelLemmingThief04-10-07, 02:16 PM | I like it. Couple of things - the pre-reqs seem a bit, I don't know, easy, maybe. Is that the intention? I'd keep an eye on the crit things too, a longbow would become 19-20/x5. Maybe not too bad... Edit: oh yeah, and is there a limit on the number of times per day Magic Weapon can be used? |

Yea, the requirements are so a straight fighter can get in with little trouble. Most of the ablilites are from the Deepwood Sniper PrC out of Masters of the Wild with some from other classes (trust me, it could be worse. Like a Great Crossbow with a 15-20/x4 after this class). And Magic weapon is once per day. |
| 3DJutsu04-10-07, 04:17 PM | C'mon folks, 32 views and only one response so far? I need constructive critisism to help make this class balanced. And to get constructive critisism I need replies. If your just passing thorugh thats fine, but I'd really like to hear your thoughts on this revision I made. I'll take both good and bad comments, as long as they're helpful. |
| demroth04-10-07, 04:26 PM | I don't really see any problem with it at all. Seems fine to me. |

Basically, imo it's an attempt to recreate the DS with as little change as possible, and it does a good job at it. |

| starfire31104-13-07, 05:31 PM | one thing, if you are a person that is concerned about crit stacking you could make the improved multiplier not stack with improved threat range for example: a 4th level DS with a long bow x3 he gets +1 crit bonus and Imp Crit giving longbow 19-20/x4 if you feel this is too strong you could make them not stack, and it would yield Long bow 19/x3 and 20/x4, just an idea. But overall, seems like a good revision of DS. |
| Imreallyagreatredwyrm06-03-07, 10:07 PM | Excellent, five stars! I might even consider this for my 2-wep Rngr/Sct!:ayyyy!: |
| 3DJutsu06-04-07, 11:16 AM | Wow, thanks |
| SaberXtreme06-10-07, 08:39 PM | Amazing Job! I'm going to see if my DM will ok this for our upcoming campaign. One question though. Why did WotC ever give Magic Weapon to the Deepwood Sniper? Its only a +1 enhancement Bonus and by the time you get it you most likely already have a +1 Bow. It's an enhancement bonus, so it doesn't stack. So what exactly is the point? |
| Link18206-10-07, 08:47 PM | Nice. I had a PC playing an old style DWS once. I wouldn't allow that one again but this one's great. |
| 3DJutsu08-27-07, 03:12 PM | I've been outta commission for awhile, but I'm glad to see other people still like the new Deepwood Sniper. |
| GraveDigger08-29-07, 03:52 AM | I liked the keen arrows aspect of the DWS, I think it was one of the things I liked the best. |
| 3DJutsu09-04-07, 10:44 PM | Imp Critical (Long/Short/Cross bow) is better than keep arrows imo, can be used all the time and in a non-magic zone. |
| aura88809-05-07, 05:22 PM | Hi, I'm gonna help you with making the format much better. So, what you have to do first, is to use a text program that each letter takes the same place. The notepad will do fine. So open up the notepad. Then you have to distance everything by the same number of space when you write it. Ex Level BAB Fort Rex Will Special ( The number of space between each word doesn't matter here) X +X +X +X +X +X X +X +X +X +X +X ( Ok, it's here that the number of space matters, the number of space you used for the first line must the same number of space you use for the second line, third line, etc. When you'll reach lvl 10 and more, you'll have to reduce the number of space by one because the number of number of the lvl increased by one. ) Once your thing is all finish in notepad, you do write your post and you type (except that you change the 0 by a o ) than, you copy/paste your notepad thing after the [C0de] and, at the end you do (again remplacing the 0 by an o ) It gives something like this Level BAB Fort Rex Will Special 1 +1 +1 +1 +1 XXXXXXXXXXX 2 +2 +2 +2 +2 XXXXXXXXXXX 3 +3 +3 +3 +3 XXXXXXXXXXX 4 +4 +4 +4 +4 XXXXXXXXXXX 5 +5 +5 +5 +5 XXXXXXXXXXX 6 +6 +6 +6 +6 XXXXXXXXXXX 7 +7 +7 +7 +7 XXXXXXXXXXX 8 +8 +8 +8 +8 XXXXXXXXXXX 9 +9 +9 +9 +9 XXXXXXXXXXX 10 +10 +10 +10 +10 XXXXXXXXXXX Hope that help |
| RobbyPants09-06-07, 11:05 AM | Hi, I'm gonna help you with making the format much better. So, what you have to do first, is to use a text program that each letter takes the same place. The notepad will do fine. So open up the notepad. Then you have to distance everything by the same number of space when you write it. This is good advice. The best way to get good looking tables is to type them elsewhere (such as the already suggested Notepad). The trick to getting the spacing right is to use a fixed-spacing font, such as Courier New. the [CODE] tags will place your text in a box with a Courier font to preserve the spacing and alignment. Also, one last tip: If you decide you want headers or other sections of your table to be bold, do this after you copy and paste the table into your thread. The [B] tags for making the text bold will throw off your spacing when you're still editing the table, making it harder for you to line up. EDIT: Once your thing is all finish in notepad, you do write your post and you type (except that you change the 0 by a o ) than, you copy/paste your notepad thing after the [C0de] and, at the end you do (again remplacing the 0 by an o ) Also, for future reference aura888, you can post the tags in threads without substituting characters (like o for 0) if you use a noparse tag. Here's an example: Here are two CODE tags: Level BAB Fort Ref Will ___________________________ 1 +1 +1 +1 +1 2 +2 +2 +2 +2 3 +3 +3 +3 +3 And here is the exact same text outside of the noparse blocks: Level BAB Fort Ref Will ___________________________ 1 +1 +1 +1 +1 2 +2 +2 +2 +2 3 +3 +3 +3 +3 The "noparse" tag stops parsing of VB code, thus it will print the tags in the window instead of applying the effects. |
| 3DJutsu09-07-07, 08:56 AM | Hey thanks for the tips you two, looks MUCH better now imo. |
| imakuni6709-07-07, 04:43 PM | This reminds me alot of the weapon master revision (http://forums.gleemax.com/showthread.php?t=916486)I'm working on actually...A couple things though. 1. Magic weapon seems kindof pointless to me, it's obvious the class should have some mystic abilities (Lucky Shot is really nice, btw), but magic weapon seems a little weak. Maybe substitue it for the ability to Quick Draw the weapon you have weapon focus with, like I did for my revision. 2. Add some craft (bowsmithing) to the req. ;) 3. You need to clarify the crit increases stack with improved crit but not with Keeness (3.5 rules) Other than that, it's awesome! |
| 3DJutsu09-09-07, 01:35 AM | 1) Meh, it originally came with the class, so I fiqured 'what the hell?' 2) Good idea 3)Whaa? If your reffering to the Imp Crit (bow) feat, that already doesn't stack with Keen. But if your reffering to the Crit Multiplier bonus, then that would stack with keen, but it'd be kinda pointless to get keen arrows if you've got Imp Crit, see what I'm sayin? 4) Why thank you! |
| Windspear09-11-07, 05:39 PM | What can I say? Great class! I really like it. Except one thing: You seemed to have worked so hard for it to fit the fighter very early on, yet the fighter has no stealth skills whatsoever. I think PrC needs to be "dressed on" a ranger or maybe a rogue, so the stealth skills will be worth something. Other than that, all is good. |
