| Dejah07-13-07, 07:42 AM | My character is currently a Shield Bearer (from Dragon Magazine) and he's based totally around defense. Anyone know about a prestige class that gives you abilities helping armor and AC? |
| The_Shaman07-13-07, 08:08 AM | Hmm, dwarven defender from the DMG, devoted defender from, er, I think it was Sword and Fist, and Great Rift Defender from Shining South are but few of those I'd care to name. |
| Dejah07-13-07, 09:19 AM | Well, my char is a human, so he can't apply for dwarven defender, and Devoted Defender is all about protecting a "charge", and I want to defend myself. What kind of abilities does a Great Rift Defender have? |
| lord_xarallon07-13-07, 10:36 AM | Fighter. And take feats that increase AC, like Shield Specialization and Heavy Armor Optimization. |
| windscar1807-13-07, 12:40 PM | Knight Protector might work, but it's all about protecting OTHERS. Outside of that, I really haven't looked at the Shield Bearer in a while, so... |
| Garonak07-13-07, 05:30 PM | Knight might work, it got some nice protective abilities, but that class is also focused on protection others more than him/herself. |
| madbliza07-13-07, 06:34 PM | Great Rift Defender's stuff comes into play in tight areas. At least when the bonus to AC applies. The only PrC's that add bonuses to AC are mostly where you can wear only light or no armor. I agree with Xarallon and say that feats are the way to go to boost your AC. |
| The_Shaman07-13-07, 07:35 PM | Great Rift Defender is iirc dwarf-oriented too. BTW, what about the Pious Templar? Some DR, spells, feats - sounds like a solid base to me. Aside from that, fighters and paladins are both good options. The Fighter benefits from feats that improve armor use such as armor specialization and the like (check Races of Stone and PHBII), while the paladin can get some mileage from the divine feats like Divine Shield. Of course, you can use both and a PrC, if you want :) |
| Thunderchunky07-17-07, 04:09 PM | If you're a good character, BoED has the Defender of Seltial(sp?). Basically a dwarven defender for non-dwarfs... |
