| Phelf_Der_Zemit12-03-07, 10:32 PM | ok this might have been done before, but i thought this was quiet nice so enjoy. Demon's Apostle Requirments: Able to cast Summon Monster III. Demon Heratige (Tiefling, Demon Bloodline, etc.) Skill Focus (Knowledge: Planes) Knowledge: Planes - 13 Language- Abyssal BAB Will For Ref Level 1 +0 +2 +2 +0 Summon Demon +1 to spellcasting class Level 2 +1 +3 +3 +0 Demon Affinaty, Familar Augmentation Level 3 +1 +3 +3 +1 Summon Demon 2/day +1 to spellcasting class Level 4 +2 +4 +4 +1 Demon Alertness Level 5 +2 +4 +4 +1 Summon Demon 3/day +1 to spellcasting class Level 6 +3 +5 +5 +2 Demon Traits, Lesser Level 7 +3 +5 +5 +2 Summon Demon 4/day +1 to spellcasting class Level 8 +4 +6 +6 +3 Demon Traits Level 9 +4 +6 +6 +3 Summon Demon 5/day +1 to spellcasting class Level 10 +5 +7 +7 +3 Demon Traits, Greater Summon Demon: Once per day (this increases at every odd level) the Demon's Apostle may spontainisly cast a summon monster spell, using up the DA's highest spell slot available, chosing a demon from the list one higher than the highest Summon Monster spell that you can cast This is not determanded by the slot you burn to use this ability, but the highest monster summoning spell you can normally cast (you do not have to meet the Alignment Requirment). You may spontanisly cast summon monster (Demmon only) indefanintly, but can only use that creature of the next spell list as listed above. This demon is friendly and protective to the summoner, acting as if under a charm monster spell. The summoner may use his Demon Affinity (explained below) to persaude the demon to do things for him. Special: Once you are able to cast Summon Monster IX, You may use this ability and summon a Nalfeshnee. Demon Affinity: You gain the following feats, special abilities, etc. against demons, or people with demon heratige (not people though that are changed, per spell, into a demon subtype, or form). Persausive, Negotiater, Empower Spell (on all spells cast directly on a demon), stealthy, toughness, track. Demon Alertness: All demons with in 120 feet are reveiled to you. As if you have Detect Undead cast on you but instead reveiles Demons inside the 120 foot radius. Demon Traits, Lesser: You gain Immunity from Poison. Also gains Resistance to elec 10, acid 5, cold 5, fire 5, and DR 5/cold iron. Demon Traits: The Demon Apostle becomes has the ability to see invisablity, and detect magic, at will. This stacks with the above abilities. Also the DA gains Telepathy to all in 100 feet that speak Abyssal, aswell as being immune to electricty. Demon Traits, Greater: Gains the following Su: 1/day: Implosion, Power Word, Stun, and Dispel Magic, Greater. (DC applied from a caster of your DA level + 5). They also gain spell resistance equal to 12 + your Demon Apostle level, and Familar Augmentation: Through your study of demonic things, you have learned to indefanintly summon a quasit, as your familar. This replaces any familar you already have, but doesn't kill it, so there is no exp loss. To do this you must do everything that is described in the sorceror's description, in PHB. This strikes me as over powerful, so help me out. The requirments are solid I think, because you must be atleast level 10 to start it. TY in advance. |
| RobbyPants12-05-07, 01:41 PM | The idea is there, but I think you could probably change some things around. This reminds me a lot of the demonoligist PrC from BoVD. That's another PrC that is based on a cool concept, but is lacking a bit. One thing I love that you've done (and is missing in the demonoligist) is the 1/2 casting progression. I'd recommend changing the prereques so you have to be able to cast Summon Monster III. If you want to make the summon demon easier, allow the caster to be able to summon a demon or CE fiendish creature from a list one level higher. Thus, if you cast Summon Monster III, you could pick a CE fiend off of the Summon Monster IV list. Perhaps at a higher level, you could increase this to two levels higher. Limit this to something like three times per day. Another way to boost the summoning ability is to allow them to spontaneouly cast summon spells (for CE fiends only) similarly to how a good cleric can spontaneously cast a cure spell. Giving out a quaist familiar can be both mechanically fun, and also great for flavor. For the demon immunities, consider slowly building into them. Rather than giving electricity immunity, start it at a resitance of 10, then 20, and then immunity. I think some of the greater immunities are a bit much. Also, the resistance ability at 10th level is confusing. I'd be careful granting any form of Spell Resistance, but with a half casting progression, it might be a good capstone. If you want some form of physical protection, Damage Reduction 5/Cold Iron is the way to go for demons. This can be increased to 10 at higher levels. All in all, nice idea. Also, you used [block] tags around your table. Use [code] instead. You'll probably have to redo the spacing a bit, but it will clean your table up. ;) |
| Phelf_Der_Zemit12-05-07, 04:14 PM | code!! thank you, i went through chart, block, table, everything.. ty. I like the summoning idea, for the summon creature, and the farmilar as well. The DR sounds good as well, but if i do that i'll take off another immunity of some sort, or the PrC willl be sought after for just it's damage resistance. EDIT: and it's changed alittle, the graphs sloppy but it's better. |
| RobbyPants12-06-07, 09:52 AM | code!! thank you, i went through chart, block, table, everything.. ty. <snip> EDIT: and it's changed alittle, the graphs sloppy but it's better. Cool. I'll take a close look when I get more time. Also, a hint for formatting the table: use a simple text editor like Notepad with a courier font. That's the same font used in the [code] brackets, which works because each character has the same width in pixels, allowing you to line your columns up. The easiest way to do it is to set it up in Notepad with the correct spacing, and then copy and paste it into the thread editor. It helps a lot, because the thread editor uses a different font, so you can't tell if your columns are lined up. ;) |
| RobbyPants12-06-07, 12:33 PM | I think it's getting there, but there are a few things I would change: I think I would get rid of the demon immunities ability entierly. I think the resistances and traits you pick up should be enough. I would swap the odd/even leveled abilities, putting the summoning boosts on the levels with caster-level increases, and the special abilities on the levels without a caster-level increase. I feel it more evenly advances the power. I wouldn't limit the number of times per day the caster can spontaneously summon. I would, however, limit the number of times per day that he can summon off the next higher list. Basically, I'd slightly reword the entry you have. Rather than transforming the familiar, I'd give the caster a choice whether or not to summon a quasit. If they choose to, then they lose their old familiar, if any. Also, you could give them the option to add the fiendish template to their existing familiar instead. I might have missed it, but you could give resistance to electiricty 10 for the lesser traits. You have a resitance of 5 for three other types, but I didn't see electricity. For the sense demon ability, perhaps they should activate it as a standard action. It's looking pretty good. I may have to use this in my games. |
| Phelf_Der_Zemit12-06-07, 04:01 PM | Ok changed alot of it. Add another summoning per day at level ten because i got rid of demon immunities. Familar all finished. Keep it coming. |
| Phelf_Der_Zemit12-06-07, 04:09 PM | Double Post I also added the abiliaty to summon a Nalfeshnee when you become able to cast Summon monster IX, because there isnt a Summoning spell higher, I had to invent a new list. |
| RobbyPants12-07-07, 10:04 AM | I also added the abiliaty to summon a Nalfeshnee when you become able to cast Summon monster IX, because there isnt a Summoning spell higher, I had to invent a new list. That's a good idea. Again, I'd change the summoning ability slightly. Possibly split it into two abilities for clarity. I might word it something like: Spontaneous Summoning (Su): The Demon Apostle gains the ability to spontaneously convert a prepared spell to a Summon Monster spell of the same level. He may only summon Chaotic Evil creatures from the list. For example, if a Demon Apostle had Stoneskin prepared (a 4th level spell), he could expend the spell slot to summon a Howler (off of the Summon Monster IV list). Powerful Summoning (Su): Once per day, a Demon Apostle may summon a more powerful creature. When casting a Summon Monster spell (either prepared or spontaneously converted) to summon a Chaotic Evil creature, he may summon a creature from the list one level higher. For example, if a Demon Apostle were to cast Summon Monster III, once per day, he could summon a Howler or some other Chaotic Evil creature from the Summon Monster IV list. If a Demon Apostile casts Summon Monster IX, he may opt to summon a Nalfashnee instead. At each odd level, the Demon Apostle gains another use of Powerful Summoning per day, to a maximum of five times at level 9. Perhaps you could think of a better name for 'Powerful Summoning'. Names like Augment Summoning and Empowered Summoning were already taken. ;) Also, just so you know, the only way I can see a Demon Apostle casting Summon Monster IX is if they only take seven or fewer levels in the class. Any more than that and they loose too many caster levels to gain 9th level spells. Still, I guess it's a good clause to add in just in case. |
| RobbyPants12-07-07, 03:01 PM | Another thing I forgot about: what are the hit dice, class skills, and number of skill points for the class? Also, you need to list weapon and armor proficiencies. I guess I would suggest something like: Hit Die: d4 (maybe d6) Class Skills: Bluff, Concentration, Craft, Descipher Script, Knowledge (Arcana), Knowledge (Planes), Knowledge (Religion), Profession, Sense Motive, and Spellcraft. Skill Points per level: 2 + Int mod. Weapon and Armor Proficiencies: Demon Apostles gain no new proficiencies with weapons or armor. |
| Phelf_Der_Zemit12-07-07, 04:03 PM | I agree, and I'll try to come up with a better name as well. |
