Dervish: Slashing Fury + 1,000 Cuts? [Archive] - Wizards Community

06-05-07, 11:33 AM does the extra attack granted by the Slashing Fury feat from PHB2 get doubled by the Dervish "A Thousand Cuts" ability? I opine that it *does*.

While the 1000 cuts ability specifically states that you get the bonus attack from Haste but that this attack doesn't stack with 1K cuts, the slashing fury bonus attack is different in that
1) it's granted through prowess of arms and not a magical enhancement
2) you also eat a -5 penalty to all your attacks, so it's dissimilar to Haste in that regard.

what say you all?

06-05-07, 01:11 PM I'd say that works, just from the knowledge of what does and doesn't stack. I don't have that book, but I took a look at it once...I think it works...

Certainly. You're looking at a benfit from a Feat working with a Special Ability. From everything I've ever read and answers to similar questions I've seen, they would function together.

06-06-07, 06:16 AM Hmm, you know, that might work even better with EWM and that ability that allows a double weapon or a spiked chain an extra attack at iirc -2 . For a dervish, a weapon like the double sword is not so far out.

Greater two weapon fighting, Slashing Fury, Crack of Doom, Two Weapon Rend, 1,000 cuts!!!! oh dont forget those whips are slashing so you get free great cleave!!!!

i think thats 14 attacks with your main hand, 6 attacks with your off hand, plus a little bonus on anyone hit by both hands..... plus any cleave attacks....

DOOOOOOOOM!!!!!

06-10-07, 07:02 AM Two weapon rend does only one attack, but I'm thinking of the flay feat from CoRuin... Do you think that it would take one attack from each weapon, or only the first would work for those nice little 1d6s?

However in the case of Two Weapon Rend, you could actually trigger it up to the number of times you attack in a round with your off-hand so long as its only once per target. "once per round against a given opponent". So you could trigger it quite a few times, if you alternate your on and off hand attacks rend can show up in cleave chains even.

note this still requires keeping enough targets in range to score multiple rends, but thats not exactly a big deal when you can step between attacks with your dervish dance AND have 15 feet of reach.

06-10-07, 03:41 PM Ah yes, I missed that. CoRuin has feats that let you do 1d6 more of a certain damage type each time after the first successful attack per round - flay for slashing, skewer for piercing, pulverize for blunt (not cumulative, of course). It can be very nice with dervish.

06-12-07, 12:13 AM warblade-dervish, two weapon fighting(and such) with the time stands still manuver (at lvl 23 i suppose) for a total of about 34 attacks in 1 round if the math and the abilities work the way i read them. using 2 short swords (or sunblades), if ya got three spare feats (which i doubt) u could take 2 devoted spirit manuvers then the stance aura of chaos.

i don't have my books with me so I can't check everything out.
but its a sample of what my players try to cook up :D

06-19-07, 12:07 AM What about moster Dervishes? I had a Thri-Kreen dervish who got 26 attacks per round at 20th level. He had no bonus attacks from anything except heaps of arms and Dervishness. :D
