Dragon Disciple PrC Alignments [Archive] - Wizards Community

06-08-07, 11:13 PM Just a few quick questions: Would someone taking the Dragon Disciple PrC need to choose a dragon type that would match their alignment? For example: could a Chaotic Good or Neutral Good character choose a Gold Dragon as their dragon type even tho its Lawful Good? What about Chaotic Neutral or True Neutral? Or does it not matter at all?

I personally think (as a moderately experienced DM) that it would be inappropriate for a Chaotic anything character to choose a dragon type that is Lawful anything. It kinda goes against the flow of the game. Its not like serving a God... its something that will become a permanent part of thier character's being and their nature as well.

Oh just for reference... this is what someone playing a Barb/Sorc gestalt character wants to do.

Any and all ideas, suggestions, advice or comments will be greatly appreciated.

06-08-07, 11:55 PM There are no alignment based restrictions. A DM could impose them but I don't recommend that. Mechanically the breath weapon and energy immunity are the only differences between each type and not requiring alignments to match makes it far easer to play against type. If you still wish to impose alignment to type restrictions at least make them have to match one step instead of be as close as possible. A CG character should be able to make a rebelous Gold Dragon Disciple or a repentant Red DragonD and not get forced in using a normal CG type.

06-09-07, 01:36 AM Nah, I like the idea of a paladin who discovers he has red dragon blood in his heritage, but uses it to fight evil nonetheless...:D

I just think that this particular player is trying to take advantage of my hubby's inexperience as he hasnt DM'd as much as this guy or I myself have.

06-09-07, 08:03 AM A dragon disciple, the way I understand it, merely taps in their heritage, and unless it somehow comes from an outsider I doubt that it would be so powerful as to influence their mentality. The character would just need to be driven enough.

While a paladin might be a little averse to using the powers of a Shadow dragon ancestor, a less discerning character might not be so averse.

06-12-07, 08:10 PM At level 10, a Dragon Disciple takes the alignment of his/her dragon type (i.e. Red = Chaotic Evil). Though you aren't required to do this, it is highly reccomended. Without the alignment of your color, you are abondoning your kind; thus giving them the want to destroy you.
