Dragon Lord question [Archive] - Wizards Community

11-06-07, 06:54 PM Quick question about the Dragon Lord, it says Dragon Shamans can choose their Auras from the list in Dragon Magic, could Dragon Lords choose their's from the Dragon Shaman list in PHB2? Seems no different than a spell list to me and it doesn't say they can't. Just wondering if there was any real clarification.

11-06-07, 08:24 PM I'd allow it. However, on the same hand I'm not sure if it's something that should be allowed because then it takes away from the class. I've been playing a Aasimar Marshal (Combatant Variant [Lose Grant Move action for rank increases and command auras)/Dragon Lord for a while now.

11-08-07, 03:50 AM There's nothing to allow. Dragon Shamans and Dragon Lords both get Draconic Auras, they don't have seperate lists, so yes a DR can take auras from the 'DS list'. The aura bonus stacks aswell.

By which, I mean, I know for a fact that they each have at least one aura of the same name that does a different thing, depending on which book you're looking at and the wording definitely makes the allowance for DS to take auras from Dragon Magic, but nowhere (unless there's errata out there that I don't know about) does anything explicitly say that a DL is allowed/not allowed to take auras from the DS list. I'm sure some could argue that some DS auras might be inherent to the nature of their dragon worship which Dragon Lords don't necessarily have. Personally, I'd probably allow it, too, but their lists are definitely separate.

11-10-07, 03:39 AM There's two Power auras, the one in PHB2 gives extra damage, the one in Dragon Magic increases Caster Level for overcoming SR. A Dragon Shaman can choose both.
On p86 of Dragon Magic it says: "A dragon shaman can learn any of the auras presented here in place of the ones in Player's Handbook II, but he can't take the same aura twice".

But you are right, a Dragon Lord can't choose the ones in PHB2. On p39 of DM it says that a Dragon Lord can "(...) project a single aura chosen from presented on p86".

To sum it up:
By RAW:
A Dragon Shaman can choose any aura from both Dragon Magic and PHB2.
A Dragon Lord can only choose auras from Dragon Magic

I would allow the Dragon Lord to choose from PHB2 aswell.
