It isn't big one everyones radar but I like it. Initiative bonus for the entire team is great and lowering the ACP for any armor you wear can also be helpful.

I almost made a scout/dread commando once. Being not only able to move faster than everyone else, but also SILENTLY sounds like an awesome idea. BUT I decided to go thri-kreen fighter instead. Wonder where that character went.....

dread commandos can be great, but depending on your DnD group, you may not be able to make the most of the abilities.

Indeed the +class level added to initiative is important, but with several class abilities, this class seems to encourage picking and choosing your battles.

Note that even the enhanced movement is great, but if you have a clunky fighter or cleric, this will probably not come in handy whatsoever.

Even then, a mage with invisability addes +20 to a hide, and silent (spell) adds the bonus of making the entire group quiet. So then why have a dread commando?

Well, multiple reasons to play a dread commando. There are many instances where a forward scout is important, the dread commando being one of the best to do this at a quick speed, combined with a couple well timed spells from the arcane caster of the group, can practiacally move at full speed with little or no ill effects. In plain combat, not "sneak" combat, the commando will allow the entire party to practically act first, with the casters acting first, they can either buff or nuke without worry or concern for their wellbeing. In non-combat situations where there is an anti-magic field (yes very prevelent when the DM wants you to solve a riddle or trap without automatic success) the armor check penalty will come in handy not only for movement, but for swimming, jumping, climbing, and even sometimes extraneous checks. The sudden stike abilitiy is really nifty for attacking a grapling opponent, and having that grapling monk would be a fine addition.

Just remember, the dread commando has several conflicting abilities, and dont expect to use them all at once. More importantly, will you have more fun playing a kobold navy seal?

heh ive thought about this char.

thinking of going, ranger 2/ scout 4/ dread commando 1

for my 7th lvl char.

dual kukri:
weapon finesse
dragonwrought (+2 wis/int/cha for starting at old age)
swift hunter (scout/ranger stack for favored enemy and skirmish)
two-weapon fight
track
etc

get magic kukri: it just seems liek seeing a char move liek that would be cool to watch.

Always liked the feel of the dread commando. Nice to see a navy seal/special ops type of character concept in fantasy gaming.
