Ok i have a problem. At the moment i am playing a Dread Necromancer/5 (and loving it btw) (Charnel touch 100000000/day FTW) but anywho i have been looking through all of the books i have and can't seem to find a really good PrC for this class. But the real problem is if i take a PrC i will lose the best part of the class (IMO) becoming a lich for free.....

Are there any PrCs out there that make up for the free lich thing while still adding to the full necro flavor of this class?

I dont think so.. but Your reall problem is that if you get out of the free lich thing is that you cant do it your self anyways. Your already dead, and you have to waist money on a True Reseraction/ Miricale and then spend the money and exp on the lich transformation, but this is only a minor draw back, do try and PrC out of there the fun of that class stops pretty soon.

Why do you want to consider taking a PrC? You don't have to. IMHO Dread Necromancer is enough interesting and solid on its own and I only see multiclassing doing more harm to you than good.

True: unless you really love some PrCs ability or want to specialize, you are perfectly fine as a DN 20.

now correct me if I'm wrong,
but you wanted a PrC?

why not another base class,
Though it would probably kill your spell casting, taking binder would be a nice addition,
you would eventually be able to bind acerack and get the ability to carnel touch yourself to heal yourself, as well as vamp touch to gain health AND temp HP.

Anyways, with the before mentioned multiclassing, you could become a tenebrous apostate, and have the ability to control undead, heal them, hurt alive things with your rebukes ect..

If you gestalted as binder/dread necro you would be able to play a very deadly apostate, but this is not the case.
If you start binder now, you can reach TA in 6-7 levels, thus placing you at 12th level.
maybe if you did a "rebuild" quest you could technically reach it at level 10 (be able to bind acerack) and then have the ability to vampiric touch yourself.

either way, ditto with the above, dont leave DN unless you really really want to do something different.

Mage of the Arcane Order (Complete Arcane) might be useful. You'd need to spend two feats on it, though (arcane preperation and cooperative spell, also both from Complete Arcane), and also a metamagic feat of your choice, but you'll be able to do things like get teleport and disguise self when they're needed! Of course, some Arcane Orders might be prissy about letting "your kind" in, but others might jump at the oppurtunity to get someone who wields what they think of as divine magic as arcane, and be eager to learn how to do what you do.

I once played a Dread Necromancer, I truly enjoyed the class, and, much like you went looking for a decent necromancy based PRC. Sadly, I couldn't find one. Soooo, I made the Paragon Necromancer; there's a link to it in my signature if you're interested. However, after playing as a Dread Necro. / Paragon Necro. I soon realized that I'd have been better off just staying as a Dread Necromancer. It's a truly solid class.

I have a Dread Necromancer that no one will let me play again, hes Dread Necro 10/Pale Master 10(Liberus Mortus). You loose one casting level, but gain a bunch of neat abilities.

In all reality, the lich transformation isn't as good as you might think. After you become a lich, your mental baston, negative energy resistance and things of that ilk become useless because your immune to the abilities. Dread necro is an awesome class, but the last level is just kind of. . .there.

Does anyone know why they don't get any 0 level spells???

Are there just not enough necromancy ones???

Carnal touch! I'll never look at a dread necro do the self healing thing in the same way. Never, never again.

Pale master, as mentioned above, is full of goodies and flavor. If you're more into the coolness of the class, and adding versatility, the True necromancer is interesting. Not an optimized choice, but you get Divine casting (some of it mimicking what you already do, however), a couple cleric domains (free feats or interesting abilities), and you get to be the most completely necromantic hombre that the people you meet will ever have met.

Why are they afraid of a pale master, and those class abilities are building the class up to becoming a lich over 20 levels, and by the time you become undead the last level does not do much.
