| Hells_Hooligan08-26-07, 04:16 AM | I am currently playing a level 5 druid / level 6 momf. So far I have been playing as if the levels of druid and momf do not stack however it never really gives a straight forward answer. Can someone please tell me if these two stack so that I may take on forms of 11 HD creatures or am I limited to 6 HD creatures? |
| boots_pimpleton08-26-07, 07:45 PM | well this is a gray area that your DM will give an announcement on. But if you are looking for what other DMs did, here is what my DM did. He said momf did add for HD limit of the monster, but did not increase the durration of each wild shape. In addition to that, he found creative ways of "wasting" away our wild shapes (at one time we had up to 3 druids in our party) so that we couldnt totatly abuse it. He often made us change form as often as 3 times in a single dungeon before the final boss. The abilities that momf gives you are very good, but make sure that your DM is aware of the form you will change into. After that your DM will look over the monster into greater detail and tell you if its okay. Having that requirement would ensure that you wouldn't give your DM unneeded stress. To justify the amount of power and flexibility that momf gives you, you may tell him you can only change into certain monsters. Almost akin to the polymorph spell, which requries you to have seen the monster in person before casting the spell, a momf should only be able to change into that form after he/she has befriended or have defeated that monster in close combat. This pervious sentence said, being a momf is more of learning in person what the monster is. You could also give "flaws" when you first start changing into something you havn't changed into before. These "flaws" could include the inability to use all of the multiple primary attacks if you turn into a dragon, or take a penalty, as you are just like a newborn young adult dragon, and you don't really know how to properly use your appendages. As for special attacks, remember you ONLY get extraordinary abilities, not supernatural (until later) and you must point that out to your DM. Your aquired special aiblites could be flawed as weaker than the "real" ones (as you are "mimicing" the monster). Remember DnD is based on the barder system, its no different in DM negotiations. Give the DM enough, and he will give back. |
| LordBOB77708-27-07, 12:29 AM | While i do not belive the levels of MoMF and Druid stack, I believe it was intended to be able to stack. There arent many Large or Bigger creatures with 5 HD. The lvl 10 ability grants you Dragon Shape, and if druid levels didnt stack with MoMF than you can only change into a few wyrmlings, which IMHO, it totally NOT worth it. Not having my books with me isnt a big help either. When i played a MoMF i said the levels stacked, cause either thats how i read the class/abilities, or i must of not seen where it said they didnt. My DM didnt seem to have a problem with them stacking. I think he was just glad I wasnt trying to break his game with a straight druid EDIT: The area of "knowing" the monster before you shape into it is a gray area. Seeing it fight/fighting it in battle is an excellent, hands down, fool proof way. My DM said if i can make the appropriate Knowledge Check, i was considered to "Know" about the monster, which also seemed like a good idea. Isnt that the purpose of, for example, a Knowledge(Nature) check? To see if you know weaknesses/strength's/ect... of said monster. If your DM allows the checks to count, make sure to pick up the Education Feat, and max out whatever knowledges you need. |
| bobothechimp08-27-07, 05:42 AM | I'm pretty sure the errata cleared this up. They do stack. |
| Hells_Hooligan08-27-07, 06:47 AM | Thanks everyone! |
| goawayugh08-28-07, 08:13 AM | Does no one check errata anymore? Yes, Wizards official errata verified that it stacks. Page 59: Improved Wild Shape (class feature) Add the following text to the end of the improved wild shape ability description: The master of many forms’ class levels stack with other class levels that grant wild shape for the purpose of determining the maximum Hit Dice of a form. |
| bobothechimp08-28-07, 02:04 PM | Yeah, I pointed out the errata two post ago. |
