ok all

im trying to find out if shapeshifter class ability PhbII will still count as wild shape for qualifications for feats/PrC

now if not, my question is whether or not anyone has ever played a druid kensai and whether or not it worked out well.

I would say not if the feat requires the ability to expend a Wildshape use, you don't actually have uses, or if it gives an ability to take new forms beyond what the shapeshifter ability allows. . .

For whatever is left, it should be fine, what did you have in mind?

A lot of alternate class features are not very well supported because feats and PrCs often require the standard version even when a specific alternate version might be fine. For example, a PrC for druids/rangers might require wild empathy in its description and thus not by rules-as-written support many alternate "wild empathy"-like abilities that should arguably still work just fine with the specific prestige class. Because of this, the DM should be prepared to make rulings whenever something requires a class feature that was swapped for something else - of course, sometimes the thing you swapped it for is just too different (i.e. the thing you are trying to qualify for really needs something closer to the original to "make sense").

Because shapeshifting works "at will," anything that requires expending a use of wild shape (which is normally limited) probably shouldn't allow shapeshift to take its place. If the feat or PrC in question isn't unbalanced by that fact, then have the DM make a call (in fact, even if this is unbalancing, the DM could add limitations to the new abilities you gain to balance them if he's comfortable with it). Just don't be surprised if he says "no."
