I'm wondering whether or not to take effigy master as a prestige class, because our tank is the very essence of chaotic and thus leaves me open to all sorts of undesired attacks. So, I want a shield to throw in front of myself. What I want to know is if the lost level of spellcasting is worth the effigy, or if I would be better off with a golem? And if I did take an effigy, what monster should I take? Right now I'm leaning towards elephant... |

A simpler way is to take Craft Wondrous Item, Craft Magical Arms and Armor and then Craft Construct and make an effigy without being an effigy master. The construct I made first and which has proven to be most useful over time has been a manticore, which is a flying mount, flying ranged weapon, and close-combat tank as well. The downfall of effigies is their poor saves. A wizard with a couple lightning bolts or fireballs can take one out quickly, which gets expensive. |
