| prophet22403-17-07, 12:16 AM | Hi! I'm just wondering if anyone has any thoughts on this class, and if anyone has used it in game. I am also wondering if there have been any official updates or modifications to it. I was really hoping it would show in Complete Mage. Anybody heard of it getting an official update elsewhere? The reqs seem a little weird, too. For a very <ahem> eldritch class, things like 'Intimidate' seems unusual. Also, it's sorcerer focused, which means internal magic, which means "why do you need to make contact with an outsider?" Basically it feels like a sorcerer's Archmage, but with lesser abilities and weird reqs. And why do they get 4 skill points? EDIT: Oh, and why would a sorcerer-focused class need True Spell, where you can cast 1 spell one more time per day? Anyway, I'd love to hear from people. Thanks! P.S. -> Ok, in order to make this more likely to be responded to, here is a link to someone who posted the class: http://www.geocities.com/evan_dnd/prestige/official/eldritchmaster.html |
| prophet22403-18-07, 04:26 PM | *BUMP* No thoughts on this? Anyone? Also, how does the Spell Boost feature actually work? It seems cool, but then, does it always 'rise to the top' so that by the end, you can cast a spell one higher than your current max spell level 3 times per day? Or is it only for whatever you can cast when you gain the spell boost? Does it work for spells over 5th level? Thoughts? Thanks all! |
| prophet22403-21-07, 10:54 AM | Sorry, one last BuMP I did add a link to the class description up above, and I had another question which is in the second post. |
| RobbyPants03-21-07, 11:29 AM | I guess the idea is pretty interesting, but I'll agree that the implementation could have been a little stronger. Intimidate looks like it's mostly for flavor (hence the only needing 2 ranks). I guess I would have come up with a different name for the PrC. When I first saw the name, I immediatly thought "Warlock." Oh well, I guess I don't have any solid answers to the questions you asked. I don't think I'd ever consider using the class myself... |
| nighttree03-21-07, 11:34 AM | I've looked at the class several times, and although I love the "flavor", I have found the mechanics to be confusing.... My greatest confusion comes from the lack of mention of progressing "spells per day" (there is no +1 caster level mentioned other than the fact that "combined levels" boosts level dependant effects)...If it DOES NOT increase spells per day....well it's just not worth it to get a few bonus known spells. If you DO in fact increase spells per day (as well as getting bonus spells known)...well then I like it....:D "Spell Boost" is another of the confusing ones, as the example does not match the facts (possibly because Sorcerers had different level of spells per day/known in 3.0) It's one of the abilities that seem to "imply" that spells per day have not been increasing as you progress in the class (although the example, at least in the version I have does not make much sense). Sorry nothing I have to offer is really any help....I find the class just as confusing as you do. |
| prophet22403-21-07, 11:55 AM | Thanks! That's exactly the thing... the flavor is perfect... very mysterious, very, well 'Eldritch', but the implementation seems lacking. |
| nighttree03-21-07, 12:01 PM | Looking at the class again....I think the first change I would make is to substitute the "combined levels" for a flat "+1 to existing spellcasting class". That way you are progressing in "spells per day" and "spells known", then just tacking on the "bonus spells known". The "Spell boost" simply needs re-writing so that the example conforms to existing progression in 3.5 |
| RobbyPants03-21-07, 12:41 PM | Thanks! That's exactly the thing... the flavor is perfect... very mysterious, very, well 'Eldritch', but the implementation seems lacking. If you like that flavor, take a look at the fiend-blooded PrC from Heros of Horror. Good flavor and mechanics. It's a pretty solid caster PrC, and is sort of like a blackguard for sorcerers... |
| prophet22403-21-07, 08:52 PM | Definately a neat class, thank you. :) What I'm really looking for is sort of a sorcerer-focused archmage. I don't know.. maybe it's time to build something of my own |
| nighttree03-22-07, 11:42 AM | I found this version http://www.enworld.org/showthread.php?t=153220 Which looks pretty "solid"...... Also found some varients that are exactly the same...but with more "+1 existing" (usually all but 1st, 5th, and 8th, level).... Do these look "workable" ??? |
| prophet22403-22-07, 02:21 PM | Ooo... :) Jaerom did a nice job, I think. Thank you! |
| nighttree03-22-07, 10:35 PM | Ooo... :) Jaerom did a nice job, I think. Thank you! Agreed.....I think it's the most "solid" 3.5 version I found......:w00t: |
