I need a prestige class for a Gray Elf/Strongheart Halfling (race undetermined) Enchanter. I have everything in the SRD, the PHBII, Tome and Blood, and 1 other book (that I can buy). I also have a large amount of feats available to me.

Mind Bender (CA) or Master Spec (CM)

Could you detail the pros and cons of both? Preferably the caster level rate of increase (Commandments #1 and #5: never give up caster level).

bottom line is as follows

Specialist = 10/10 CL increase
Mindbender = 5/10 CL increase.

Mindbender's abilities nowhere near warrant that much of a CL Loss, 8 MAYBE, 9 ok, 5? Not even close.

Before I get Complete Mage, what does the Specialist do for enchanters? Just want a little summary-preview.

Technically, you gain 4/5 of the caster levels you lose back, just not spell levels.

It's a nice class, two feats for free, three free spells added to your spellbook, caster level increases to specialized school, and three boosts to all your spells from the specialized school. For enchantment the biggest one is at 4th level (in my mind at least), where the opponents lose their boosts to will from doing something against it's alignment, or while their attacked or threatened by your allies. Then at tenth level you get the other big boost, they're forced to make a second save the next round if they make their save against an enchantment.

I think the Master Specialist is actually the best for enchanters: that 4th-level ability is great. You also end up getting Greater Spell Focus as a bonus feat, and thats a feat anyone who heavily relies on DCs is going to want anyway.

If you plan on playing arcane casters, Complete Mage is just a really, really good buy. I think you get more value out of it if you also have Complete Arcane, but it is still worth it without.
