I personally love the Enlightened Fist PrC(CA), but it's fifth level ability to burn a spell slot to heal hp equal to the spell's level seems a bit useless. Would it be over powering to let them automatically heal hitpoints equal to the spell's level every time they cast a spell?

As far as I can see, it wouldn't really make a difference in combat, and would just be a nice bonus.

Yes, that's too over powered. Yes, it would make a difference in combat. It essentially attaches a low powered cure spell to every single casting of anything all the time.

I do happen to agree with you though, that ability is kind of weak. If you are looking to change it, maybe healing double the spells level would be ok.

How about discarding a spell slot for 1d3 hit points per spell level.

That seems reasonable. Let me look at the class again first though. Seems like a fine change to me, but may be a little powerful.

You can already do that, if you take the feat "Draconic Vigor", it's in dragon magic, and requires you to be a sorcerer for your arcane casting, among something else.

Every time you cast an arcane spell, you heal hp = spell level.
