Epic Ultimate Magus help please [Archive] - Wizards Community

03-23-07, 06:46 PM I want to play an Ultimate Magus up to level 40. I know that I can have Wizard 4/Sorcerer1/Ultimate Magus 10/Archmage 5 by level 20.

What I want is to continue the progression 10 more levels for Ultimate Magus. I will figure something out for the remaining 10 levels (maybe more Ultimate Magus).

The problems I am running in to are:

*Determining Caster Levels
*Determining Spells per Day for each class.

I will have Practiced Spellcaster for both Wizard and Sorcerer. Archmage will improve my Wizard levels.

Someone please walk me through each level. The epic progression is rather simple to create except 11th level. For simplicity, every time he gains Arcane Spell Power, he gains only 1 level in his lowest caster level (I am sure I can convince my DM to change level 10 to keep it consistent).

03-23-07, 08:41 PM Using Mystic Theruge as a base I'd guess spellcasting level only increases one class switch every other level. I believe Arcane Spell Power (that is the increase in CL right?) would cap out at +4 which would give a "typical" UM a CL 15 in each type at 15th level.

To me the biggest values of more levels in UM would be more bonus spontaneous spells known as transfers from your book class (Epic Sorcerers don't get more spells know on their table) and the ability to use Metamagic on higher level spells.

I don't think you can. At level 15, you'd be a Wiz 11/Sor 11 -- 7 of the 10 UM levels go to both (Wiz 11/Sor 8), and the remaining 3 go the lowest arcane class (Wiz 11/Sor 11). Archmage requires Wiz 13 or Sor 14.

Not trying to do that. To qualify I only need:

Skills: Knowledge (arcana) 4 ranks, Spellcraft 8 ranks.
Feats: Any metamagic feat.
Spellcasting: Able to spontaneously cast 1st-level arcane spells, able to prepare and cast 2nd-level arcane spells from a spellbook.

Practiced Spellcaster is to improve my caster level, not to qualify for anything.
